2023 Misano MotoGP Free Practice 2 Result: Martin Denies Pirro

By Zara Daniela | Sat, 09/09/2023 - 08:49

The premier class enjoyed their final practice session under a spotless sky and only Jorge Martin eventually denied Misano master Michele Pirro from topping FP2. Martin held a small margin initially but then extended this to over three tenths of a second on his final flying lap. Pirro settled for second ahead of compatriot Luca Marini, whose session was split by a tumble at turn six. Pecco Bagnaia kept close in fourth, with Maverick Viñales breaking up the Ducati brigade in the top five.

2023 Misano Moto2 Practice 3 Result: Vietti Leads But Acosta’s Benchmark Stands

By Zara Daniela | Sat, 09/09/2023 - 08:14

Saturday got underway for the intermediate class with a new name at the top of the pile, Celestino Vietti taking the lead of the session with five minutes remaining, although the Italian could not go faster than Pedro Acosta’s benchmark from Friday. Aron Canet had a busy session, finding himself outside of the top 14 in the final five minutes of P3 but eventually made a big jump into second position.

2023 Misano Moto3 Practice 3 Result: Öncü Denies Masia

By Zara Daniela | Sat, 09/09/2023 - 07:29

Another summery morning welcomed the lightweight class in Misano and although there were some movements on the timesheets throughout the session, not everyone was in a rush to progress until the final time attack. The likes of Jose Antonio Rueda, Diogo Moreira and Ivan Ortolá briefly graced the top of the standings, but Jaume Masia was a constant presence, defending his prime position from Friday. The Spaniard built an advantage of over a quarter of a second, but it was still not enough to stop Deniz Öncü from claiming top spot with two minutes left of the session.

Misano MotoGP Friday Round Up: Grip vs No Grip, Fighting Through The Pain, And Test Riders Running Rampant

By David Emmett | Fri, 08/09/2023 - 23:01

The contrast with Barcelona is stark at Misano. Not just in terms of grip – it is absolutely night and day between last weekend and this weekend – but also with the weather. Where in Barcelona the weather was fickle, with spots of rain constantly threatening, at Misano the sun comes out in the morning and the sky stays blue until sunset. The only confounding factor is the wind.

That was causing Luca Marini problems in the afternoon. "I expected a little bit better in FP2, but with the raised temperatures I struggle a lot with the edge grip, and especially also with the wind," the Mooney VR46 rider said. "I made a lot of wheelie, and exiting from the corner for me was really really difficult, and we need to work a little bit if the conditions will be the same tomorrow in the sprint, especially because I think here the wind in the morning is every time a little bit lower and also the temperature will be better. But for the races, we need to find a little bit better compromise."

Mike Trimby, IRTA Secretary, Rider And Safety Advocate, Has Died

By David Emmett | Fri, 08/09/2023 - 21:54

Mike Trimby, IRTA Secretary, has died in Misano. The former rider was the driving force behind the founding of IRTA, the International Roadracing Teams Association, initially formed in 1986 to represent the interests of riders and teams to the FIM and grand prix race promoters. Trimby was instrumental in driving huge safety advances, starting with removal of armco, and continuing through the present day to extend run off, remove walls, install air fencing, and a host of other safety innovations.

Mike Trimby also played a key role in representing the interests of the teams within the grand prix paddock. It was Mike who pushed for better financial support for the teams, and who navigated the passage through the hard times of the global financial crisis in 2008, the switch to 1000cc in 2012, and increasing budgets for the teams with each contract renewal with Dorna.
