It was easy to make mistakes in the cold damp conditions of the final free practice session but with a dry line appearing slicks were the preferred choice for the premier class straight away. Friday’s leader, Jack Miller, featured at the top of the timing screens for much of Saturday morning as well but eventually handed the lead over to Maverick Viñales, by almost three tenths of a second. While Miller was pushing his bike down pitlane, Pecco Bagnaia robbed him of second place as well – the Italian also suffering a mechanical issue earlier in the session. 

Despite a still damp track impeding progress on the combined timesheets, a hint of sun allowed the intermediate class to take slick tyres out of their covers in the closing stages of the final practice session and create some pretty sizeable gaps on the timesheets. Somkiat Chantra did not even bother with wet tyres and only joined the track in the final handful of minutes, heading straight to the top of the timesheets.

A damp and chilly start to Saturday at Le Mans didn’t leave the lightweight class with any opportunity to change the combined top 14 ahead of qualifying but despite the tricky conditions, the track got busy straight away. And the yellow flags didn’t take too long to show up either, the session peppered with crashes – thankfully all harmless – and a brief red flag to clear the final corner of gravel. At the end of the 30 minutes, it was veteran Andrea Migno taking over at the top of the timing screens, despite having to contend with Q1 later today.
