Honda Confirm Marc Marquez Will Be At Sepang Test After Treatment "A Complete Success"

After a few days riding a motorcycle on track again, Marc Marquez has been passed fit to ride at the Sepang MotoGP test on February 5th and 6th. The Spaniard underwent a medical check on Monday, January 24th and was given the go ahead to ride.

What is most remarkable about the press release from the Repsol Honda team is the very positive language used. The treatment route chosen, a conservative route avoiding surgery and using exercises and passive treatment instead, is described as having been "a complete success". This suggests Marquez will be at 100% fitness with regards to his vision, with only his shoulder a slight concern.

Marquez will ride the radically redesigned 2022-spec Honda RC213V at the Sepang test, alongside teammate Pol Espargaro.

Repsol Honda Team confirm Marc Marquez for Sepang Test

Marc Marquez has been cleared to make his on-track return with the new Honda RC213V and the Repsol Honda Team at the Sepang Test on February 05, 2022.

Throughout the winter Marquez has had continual medical checks and consultations to monitor his diplopia. In recent weeks the improvements in his condition saw his medical team deem his recovery sufficient to return to training on two wheels. The #93 first returned to the motocross track before trying the Honda RC213V-S in Portimao and a Honda CBR600RR in Aragon.

Last Monday, January 24, Marquez underwent another medical check which reconfirmed that the treatment has been a complete success and the eight-time World Champion is in a suitable condition to ride a MotoGP bike.

Therefore, it has been decided that Marquez will start his 2022 campaign at the first official MotoGP Test in Sepang before heading to Mandalika, Indonesia the following week. This will be Marquez’s first time back on a MotoGP machine since winning the 2021 Emilia Romagna GP ahead of Pol Espargaro.

The Repsol Honda Team will head to the first test of the new season at full strength with Marquez alongside Pol Espargaro, who enters his second year with the team.

It must have been quite an adjustment for a guy that seemed to heal between the gravel trap and the garage. 

Probably won't be your year, Ducati. 

 

He used to try to hide it too. When he thought he wasn't seen, there was limping and holding body parts. He REALLY was quite the "skittle." Once healed on the upper arm, and shoulder et al is as strong as the other side...fully fit...will he or won't he return to skittle?

He is getting older. And wiser. But, it is his general makeup! Leopards don't change their spots. 

The BIKE will be a factor, for the better. Less needs for "that front end Honda crash." And, he has been habituating himself to mind staying up somewhat?

World Supersport entry list for 2022 is out. And, they JUST homologated several really interesting bikes, one is a game changer big deal surprise. Too late though for arriving this season. They shrank grid sizes a LOT for WSS and 300SS - safety change after the death of Vinales' cousin. 300ss went from 42 to just 30.

WSS homologated bike update? Two MV Agusta 800cc triples, and SUZUKI GSXR750!! Holy shite! Really? Uhm...huh. Can we say overdog? And, cheap - motor tune will be superstock, reliable and cheap. 

There are, for now, still a bunch of R6 bikes on the grid. Their motors are now much higher build tuning. A LOT of big twin Ducatis are here. Just one Team of (my beloved) Triumphs, by venerable PTR. It is an odd bike, basically the 675 Daytona with the 765 motor. Some electronics. Higher tune than the streetgoing "Moto2" limited edition bike they put out. A couple MV Augustas are there as well. And, no GSXR750's yet, but WATCH THIS SPACE. Suzuki is going racing. A few teams are still running the Kawi 600's.

There will be corrections to balance competitiveness via electronic limiters. Basically the Rev limit deal like WSBK. It WILL be used. Watch Ducati especially. Look at how many are here! Most noted rider additions? Bulega and Oli Bayliss in Red. The R6 Cup is now the Kitchen Sink 2's 3's and 4's. It wasn't long ago that similar Duc twins and 750 4's were Superbike, eh? Interesting!

As you say, The Marc could be a big worry!  Have Ducati missed their chance at a rider’s championship?  Just can’t see it for Yamaha across the year if the Honda improves and the Ducati is a rocket.  Sort of like Suzuki last year.

Fingers crossed for Oli Bayliss in WSS!

BTW…traded the Laverda 750S from the back of the farm shed for a mechanically good but cosmetically rough Ducati ST4.  Much easier project!  Could go a cafe racer kit 🤔

ST4 is a nice cheap base to start from for sure. I'd like an MTS1100S base for the trick bits and air cooled feel. I just don't have the mechanical grounding to do a project justice unfortunately.
