World Supersport qualifying was a dry session under black clouds.
Can Oncu opened the session with a 1'41.404, ahead of Dominique Aegerter and race winner Andy Verdoia, but a lap later, Adrian Huertas answered with a 1'41.230 but Oncu got back on top with a 1'41.190, with no Yamahas in the top four until Aegerter set a 1'41.016 on his third lap. Federico Caricasulo posted a 1'40.912 and a 1'40.891 staying out while everyone else pitted in the customary mid-session tea break.
Halfway through the session, Jules Cluzel's last qualifying at his home round before retiring at the end of the year wasn't going well, with the Frenchman eighteenth-quickest provisionally.
As Caricasulo finally nipped in to get new tyres, having done six laps to everyone else's four or five, the rest of the field started their second sessions. Adrian Huertas returned to the top with a 1'40.692, deposed a few seconds later by Caricasulo with a 1'40.565. Caricasulo then saved a front-end slide into a chicane, losing the front in both corners and somehow staying on.
As the flag came out, Caricasulo stayed on top and was joined on the front row by championship contender Lorenzo Baldassarri and Adrian Huertaas. Nicolo Bulega, Dominique Aegerter and Glenn van Straalen made up the second row ahead of Can Oncu, Oli Bayliss and Andy Verdoia. Jules Cluzel was the last rider in the top ten.
Caricasulo's pole position was Ducati's first in the Next Generation format.

"race winner" "Andy Verdoia" ??
Jared, why are these two phrases paired ? by the Wikipedia chart for 2022 SuperSport World Championship, Andy is 16th with no finish higher than 8th. so, color me confused.
Verdoia
Andy Verdoia won race one at Catalunya in 2020 by staying out on a slick tyre in wet conditions. It was such an unusual result that he deserves the title. :)

aha!
here I was guessing that he'd been rechristened by the Pope with a new first name.
