Stefan Bradl has taken his seventh pole of the season in comfortable style. The Viessmann Kiefer rider battled it out with his current rival Marc Marquez, but the Spaniard could never really match the pace of the German. Marquez will start the race from 2nd, just ahead of Yuki Takahashi, the Japanese rider pulling out something extra for his Gresini Moriwaki team's home race. Marc VDS Racing's Scott Redding will head up the second row of the grid, the young Englishman finishing ahead of local boy Alex de Angelis and fellow Briton Bradley Smith on the Tech 3 Moto2 machine.

Gresini.
What is up with Gresini, last race they were nowhere and now they have suddenly found their pace from the first races of the season?
Impressive
Stefan Bradl has impressed this entire season with his skill, durability and mental toughness. Marc Marquez is fast becomming the darling of this class and rightly so. Good to see Bradl is having none of it in terms of this years title chase.
The future of the premier class is in good hands judging by the wealth of tallent in Moto 2 on the rise. Diversity of nationalities is also a plus. Is it a good feeder class for GP ?. Time will tell as the Marquez',Bradl's,Luthi's,Redding's and Iannone's step up. The sooner they do,the better.
Close call
Wonder if this is going to be a race where Bradl makes an all out attempt to stop the erosion on his points lead by Marquez. Bradl certainly seemed to put the hammer down in qualifying. Both of these riders have shown fantastic speed and consistency which has left all their rivals floundering in the championship table this year.
The Moto2 class virtually never fails to give superb close racing, i just wish it could be more technically interesting.
It could be...
... if the teams would give anything away.
There is obviously lots going on with setting up the chassis, but the most you ever get out of anyone is "we changed stuff". The only thing that's visible is that at Indy they all seemed to have the rear axle jammed all the way forward in the slot, either to take some load off the front or to try to get more rear traction (I'm guessing the former). They seem to be running a teeny tiny bit longer at Misano (but maybe that's just a gearing issue).
It would be great to get a Bridgestone-style briefing from the constructors, something along the lines
"most of our guys used the longer offset triples and the least progressive rear link at this track to try to speed up turn in and maintain front grip through the longer corners".
At least Marquez's team put out some detailed press photos of their bike recently: the Suter frame looks to have been welded up from pieces machined from solid, it's very impressive... but there is nothing on the Suter or FTR web-sites.
