2011 Aragon MotoGP FP1 Result: Pedrosa Takes A Commanding Lead

Dani Pedrosa has taken charge of the first session of free practice for the MotoGP class in Aragon, setting a blistering pace in the last 10 minutes of the session. The Repsol Honda rider dislodged Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo from the top spot, though Lorenzo, like Pedrosa, had got off to only a moderate start. The two Spaniards both forged ahead of Casey Stoner, who had made the early running in FP1, setting his fastest time in the first part of the session.

Stoner led a gaggle of Hondas, with Marco Simoncelli finishing ahead of Andrea Dovizioso, the Repsol Honda man the last rider to finish within a second of his teammate Pedrosa. Behind the Hondas came a trio of Ducatis, with Pramac rider Randy de Puniet at the helm. De Puniet was just a fraction quicker than Nicky Hayden, the factory rider now using some of the updated front-end package that Rossi debuted at Brno. Rossi himself ended the session in 8th, after testing both the old carbon fiber version of the GP11.1 and the new, aluminium version of the GP11.1 (which, a Ducati spokesperson clarified, is still the official name of the bike), setting his fastest time on the new version of the bike, though not without taking a temporary excursion off track at the end of the back straight.
