Pol Espargaro has taken charge of the second day of testing for the Moto2 class at Valencia, the Tuenti HP 40 riders upping the pace and closing in on the pole record. Local boy Nico Terol was demoted to 2nd, two tenths off the pace of the Espargaro, and spent time on Wednesday testing the 2013 version of the Suter chassis, which he pronounced an improvement. Thomas Luthi secured 3rd spot, though only just, with both Julian Simon and Johan Zarco posting very strong challenges. Zarco, in particular, had a very strong second day of testing, improving his time from Tuesday by over two seconds. Scott Redding, 4th fastest on the Marc VDS Racing Kalex on Tuesday, could not make the same kind of step forward, and dropped down the order.
Danny Kent won the battle of the rookies, the Tech 3 rider getting the better of 2012 Moto3 champion Sandro Cortese by over half a second. Cortese once again found himself wrapped up in a battle with Kent's teammate Louis Rossi, the Frenchman five thousandths slower than Cortese, ceding an extra one thousandth of a second to the German on Wednesday.
Conditions on the second day of the test were much improved, the wind having dropped off in the morning, but it returned in the final session of practice in the afternoon. That did not prevent most of the riders from setting their best times in the final session, promising more to come on Thursday, when the weather is expected to be pretty close to perfect for the time of year.

Supersport vs Stock..
Come on..everybody knows the motors aren't the same..
How can you justify such excitement?
You need to get a bit closer to the action methinks..
Moto2 engines
This year, most of the Moto2 teams are using last year's official Moto2 engines, purchased from Geo after their contract ran out. So much, much less of the difference is down to engine than in previous years. They are all pretty close to the official Moto2 spec Honda units.
Fair enough..
I wasn't aware Geo had lost the Engine prep contract? Who's replacing them?
In my defence, this is what Danny Kent had to say recently..
http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/sport/sportresults/MotoGP/2013/January...
Re: Moto2 engines
There's a technical training college at Aragon which now has the contract. They are a lot cheaper than Geo were...
Danny Kent is right, but that was last year. And some of the teams may still be using their own engines, tuned one way or the other. But a lot of the teams have chosen to buy the Geo Tech engines, as this gives them much more realistic data. All very well dropping a 140hp engine in, and it might test the chassis a bit more, but it doesn't provide you with realistic data on what to expect once the racing starts.
Aaah..
well, you learn something everyday.
Ta.
Working from my phone, but..
Am i finding this correct that Pol is lapping about 1.4 seconds behind the pace of the factory ducati squad during race and testing at valencia in 2012?! I hope i am looking at wrong data.
2012 is history
GP/Moto2 comaparisons are irrelevant re Ducati. Stick with data relevant to Moto2 right now re this test. Tyres and a multitude of other differences between the GP bikes and Moto 2 bikes precludes comparison.
MY 1.4 seconds worth.
