The Derbis continued their domination of the 125cc class in 2010, with Pol Espargaro of the Tuenti team setting the fastest time in the first session of practice by a whopping half a second. Espargaro finished the day ahead of Red Bull's Marc Marquez and Marquez Ajo teammate Sandro Cortese. Aprilia's opposition was headed by Nico Terol of the Aspar team, but the Spaniard was nearly 1.2 seconds off the pace of Espargaro. Terol's teammate, Bradley Smith, had a difficult start to the weekend, suffering technical problems early on and missing most of the session, ending the day in lowly 18th position.

Derbi
Are Derbi pumping massive funding into these bikes or something?
The gaps are huge, nearest aprilia over a second off doesn't seem right and all the Derbi's have been consistently quick all season...
Louie Louie!
Louis Salom jumps ship from Lambretta to Aprilia? That's too bad for the Lambretta team but it looks like Van Der Mark isn't doing too bad for his first GP outing since Assen 08 and first ride on the Lambretta. Any news on what team Salom joined? Hopefully he'll get a chance to prove himself.
As for Derbi, I think it's just the teams and riders. I believe they are still Aprilia machines, no? I could see that it's a better investment for Piaggio to put the Spanish banner on the bikes of the class that is so popular there.

Interesting points about 125s
The Derbis are just Aprilias, with one big difference: They run their own exhaust pipes. Given the critical role of exhausts in two stroke engines, that may be the big difference.
Louis Salom is now riding for the STIPA Molenaar Racing team alongside Randy Krummenacher. Their original rider is out with an injury for the foreseeable future.

Engines Engineering
I sent an email (sadly in English) to the EE info email address asking about their bike. It doesn't appear to be a Honda or Aprilia and they describe it as their own project. Do you know how much of that is true or any other details of the Lambretta machine?

Lambretta
As I understand it, the Lambretta is a completely independent design. It has nothing to do with the Loncin (the team is the same), but is a new design. That's all I know about it.

Thanks
I still hold out hope for a reply with some details from EE.
