2016 Phillip Island World Superbike FP1 Results: Sykes Starts 2016 On Top

The first flying lap of the year was the always eager Jonathan Rea, but it was his teammate Tom Sykes who ended the session on top, with Sylvain Guintoli and Rea within a tenth of a second. Leon Camier was fourth quickest ahead of Chaz Davies. The middle of the session brought some surprising rain, but it didn't stick about, letting everyone get back up to speed fairly quickly.

Guintoli topped the sheet for a lot of the session, with a good result for the returning Yamaha, and Alex De Angelis was the fastest on his Aprilia RSV4, registering 316km/h through the speed trap, two km/h faster than Rea's Kawasaki and the BMW of Jordi Torres.
