Michael van der Mark suffered a massive highside crash right after setting the quickest lap of the day, bringing out the red flags immediately after the chequered flag. Alvaro Bautista and Sandro Cortese were within a quarter of a second of van der Mark's time, but neither could beat Jonathan Rea's time set in the morning's session.
Michael van der Mark is being assessed in the medical centre.

Get well soon Michael van der Mark
Michael's crash sounds nasty.
On no not the scaphiod !
Maybe not, apparently the trapezium and the radius. These are the bones on either side of the scaphiod. The trapezium is at the base of the thumb.
I'm assuming it's a distal fracture of the radius i.e. towards the wrist. Hope it's not damaged the articulation surface. Minimally displaced is better. If it's the shaft somewhere that's better usually, depends. Fingers crossed for a good outcome.
And two ribs, they only hurt when you breathe.
I've learnt so much about anatomy since I started riding motorcycles.
Ouch
Just watched this. I'll bet while lying in the hospital tonight, with each breath, Michael wishes he was wearing an airbag equiped suit.
No airbag ? Yes Airbag!
No airbag ? Wrong
Edit : Michael was using an airbag suit and it worked.
Edit: Didn't help with the wrist.
Edit: that was a big one ! Even with the best protection riders can still get injured.
That's racing.
Evidently so
...and I stand corrected, but watching the video, it certainly didn't look inflated at all to me and I'm sure I'm not the only one that thought that. ;)
