2019 Buriram MotoGP FP4 Result: Quartararo Robs Marquez Again

The premier class were keen to enjoy some more dry track time after rain washed away some of the grip on offer and it wasn’t just asphalt that got hot but also Marc Marquez’s pace. The world champion showed once again that his spectacular FP1 incident was all forgotten, his Honda wobbling once again around turn 4 and floating on the front tyre into turn 12 all while Marquez was riding an impressive pace in the high 1:30s – low 1:31s on the overwhelmingly popular hard front-soft rear tyre combination.

This also ensured that the Spaniard stayed at the top of the timesheets until the very last minute, when, not unusually, Fabio Quartararo did a test quali run on fresh rubber and robbed Marquez of top spot by three hundredths of a second. Maverick Viñales was once again in the mix, the Spaniard third and with pace rivalling his compatriot’s.

Jack Miller was top Ducati, three tenths off the lead trio and another tenth ahead of factory colleague Andrea Dovizioso. Valentino Rossi was pretty lonely in his admiration of the soft front tyre but the Italian persevered and got fast enough for sixth spot, with decent pace in the mid 1:31s. Narrow margins separated the rest of the top ten, Alex Rins getting the best of Franco Morbidelli, while Pol Espargaro came out on top of Danilo Petrucci. Joan Mir and Pecco Bagnaia were the final riders to post a time within a second of the leader.
