The Petronas Yamaha team announced that Jake Dixon is to move up to the MotoGP team for his home round at Silverstone. The British rider is to ride the bike of the injured Franco Morbidelli. Cal Crutchlow, who replaced Morbidelli at the two races at the Red Bull Ring, will take the place of Maverick Viñales at Silverstone.

British rider steps up to premier class at home GP, as stand in for recovering Franco Morbidelli
PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team will give Jake Dixon his MotoGP category debut at next weekend’s British Grand Prix (27-29 August), his home race, as a stand-in for the recovering Franco Morbidelli.
Dixon will jump aboard the Yamaha YZR-M1 used most recently at the past two Grands Prix by Cal Crutchlow, whilst Morbidelli continues his recovery from knee surgery undertaken in June. Crutchlow moves to Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP in Silverstone.
PETRONAS Sprinta Racing will announce the Silverstone replacement for Dixon, alongside Xavi Vierge in Moto2, very shortly.

Good for him.
Good for him.
Might not have earnt it results wise but you have to take the opportunity.
If he scores 1 point he has done better than Cal in 2 races so that's a positive
If it rains
He will win it, or something like that. He was leading a Moto2 race last year but sadly fell out. Silverstone is a good track for the Yamaha. Hope to see Vinales on the grid.
Hope to see Vinales on the grid.
I think you missed something. He's fired, toast, gone. Unless he can fit into Savadori's leathers you won't see him for a while.
Savadori
Savadori's days are numbered. Either Vinales is testing outside of the grid like mad, or slotting into his spot straight away to get match fit for his 2022 campaign - I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if it happened. Not this round, but perhaps the next.
I think Savadori is going to
I think Savadori is going to get offered a Test spot, and be happy to have it. Aprilia's brass said they "intend to keep him in the family."
Gerloff
agree with Graha- that if you get that opportunity, you take it, no questions.. but, just thinking that sans Gerloff''s mayhem on Toprak recently, that opportunity may have been his.. does Dixon have any connections with Yamaha ??
Dixon is Aqua
Dixon is Aqua
It would be SO much cooler to have Toprak, and on Factory kit.
The Fabio Rule
When Fabio got drafted to MotoGP - the majority opinion was that he really hadn't done enough in Moto2 to justify the promotion. Well that turned out rather better than OK, and I think that the view that the really clever people in the paddock generally get it right was enhanced with that move. I hope Mr Dixon does equally well. If though, as reported, Toprak turned down that ride for more WSBK, then I totally don't understand it. He would have been my choice. This contractextension in WSBK means that he will be 'typecast' into that class and like JR, may never gets another chance at GP. Strange times. And Go Cal!.
There's no shame in being a
There's no shame in being a WSBK Champion.
Emphatic Agreement
I could not agree more with you - and I have previously opined that JR should have been offered a GP ride long ago. I think its the MotoGP teams who discount the merit of WSBK riders - not me or I think the vast majority of MM readers.
Has anyone else heard the
Has anyone else heard the Dovi/Binder rumor circulating? WithU takes Petronas's spot and wants an Italian rider. They can afford Dovi's seven figure demands. The logic is teaming an experienced veteran alongside the rookie. I imagine the 2021 customer spec Yamahas as competitive next year. At least at the beginning of the season.
Not heard it...but i like it

Me too. It's what Simon
Me too. It's what Simon Patterson is reporting.
What I'd like even more
... is to see Morbidelli move to the factory squad at once, and Dovi partner with Rossi for the rest of this season. Legends 'R Us! Then yeah, Dovi with Binder next year would be a great pairing.
He's gotta be Nucking Futs...
...if this is the great opportunity Dovi was holding out for?? An A spec-soon-to-be-B-spec satellite ride???!!! Instead of a factory Aprilia ride and the chance to etch his name on the development and possibly more years of MotoGP...
As a Ducatisti I love Dovi but runner up 3yrs in a row on arguably the best bike on the grid unable to beat Marquez...Seriously what is his end goal right now? Championship winner? Now there's Marquez,Fabio,Pecco,Mir,Olivera et al to contend with... Never say never.....but I think not, if Mr MotoGP himself couldn't achieve one more in the last decade..
