2008 Jerez Qualifying Practice Report

By Kropotkin | Sat, 29/03/2008 - 16:39

Qualifying practice at Jerez was a case of déjà vu, but from a parallel universe. A young man goes out on a new bike and posts the fastest time in session after session, before ripping up qualifying and snatching the pole by a big margin. Last year it was Casey Stoner putting on the smackdown at track after track. But here at Jerez, things were a little different.

2008 Jerez FP2 Times Day 1 - Lorenzo Dominates The Afternoon

By Kropotkin | Fri, 28/03/2008 - 14:11

The first day of practice at Jerez was full of surprises. Despite Jerez not being a track which is particularly kind to Ducati, the fear of many was that we would see the old, familiar pattern once again: Casey Stoner coming out and being quick right from the very start.

2008 Jerez MotoGP Preview - The Waiting Is Over

By Kropotkin | Thu, 27/03/2008 - 21:30

The Qatar round of MotoGP always makes me think of my grandfather. During the first few months of the Second World War, he was sent to Belgium to fight the Germans. Luckily for him, the Germans were otherwise engaged, steamrollering across Poland and subduing Denmark and Norway, leaving my grandfather to trundle around the Low Countries on the back of a truck, wondering if this was what war was supposed to be like.

Melandri's Future Uncertain At Ducati

By Kropotkin | Wed, 26/03/2008 - 16:48

When Marco Melandri signed for Ducati, he cannot have foreseen the immense difficulty he would have in getting to grips with the Ducati GP7. Since making the switch from Honda, Melandri has floundered near the back of the field during testing, only managing to stay ahead of the satellite Alice Ducati riders Toni Elias and Sylvain Guintoli. The measure of his difficulties is summed up in the relief Melandri expressed in managing an 11th place finish at the season opener in Qatar.

War Of Words, Episode I: Lorenzo vs Pedrosa

By Kropotkin | Fri, 14/03/2008 - 23:02

When Jorge Lorenzo entered MotoGP, sparks were sure to fly. Lorenzo is both outspoken and flamboyant, and has never been at a loss for words. He has also never been afraid of confrontation, having spent virtually his entire career engaged in sniping at various targets in the paddock. Such was his reputation, indeed, that as part of his contract, Yamaha banned the "Lorenzoland" celebrations, and forced Lorenzo to work with a psychologist to keep his impetuosity in check.
