2011 MotoGP Testing Dates

Though Ducati's Wrooom! launch event at the Italian ski resort of Madonna di Campiglio was eagerly anticipated by MotoGP fans and followers around the world, with the chance for Valentino Rossi to speak freely for the first time since his signing with Ducati had been announced, it merely served to whet appetites. What the fans really want to see is the bikes back on track, to see whether Rossi's disappointing times at Valencia were just a fluke, or were more indicative of problems adapting to the Ducati.

Fortunately, the fans do not have much longer to wait. The compulsory winter break, during which no official riders are allowed to test the MotoGP bikes, ends on January 31st, with testing resuming immediately afterwards. The riders take to the track in Malaysia on February 1st, for a three-day test, heading back three weeks later for another three days from the 22nd onwards. Another three weeks later, the riders assemble at Qatar for a two-day night test seven days before the season kicks off for real under the floodlights, in the middle of the desert.

Here are the remaining test dates for the MotoGP class:

February 1-3 Sepang I
February 22-24 Sepang II
March 13-14 Qatar (Night Test)

Wrooom sobers up tomorrow sometime. Sepang 1 around the corner.
When the dust..or mud settles after Sepang 1,the heat is truly on.
There will be only 7 weeks to get all the 'ducks' in a row before the season opener.
Sepang 1 has to be the most eagerly awaited test scince....scince ???

Is there a requirement in the Dorna contract compelling all the teams to test at the same location and date?

It would seem to save money for teams to test close to home. But perhaps it is cheaper to travel than to use the test track close to home?

Direct time comparison between teams would be problematic from tests at different venues, but a % difference from prior track records might prove reliable for comparison.

Welcome back and Happy New Year. Hope the new digs are comfy.

Testing in europe at this time of year is not so usefull as it is winter. Sepang offers the best weather at this time of year, and is also regarded as a track with enough variety to test most aspects of a new bikes performance.
