Paddock Pass Podcast Episode 235: Magny-Cours WorldSBK - Toprak Razgatlioglu And The Track Limits Controversy

The Magny-Cours round of World Superbikes generated plenty of controversy, along with some outstanding racing. Gordon Ritchie and Steve English look back at a fascinating weekend of racing in France.

They kick off with a discussion of the progress made by Toprak Razgatlioglu, and how the rivalry with former mentor Jonathan Rea is playing out. Steve and Gordo contrast Toprak's 2021 WorldSBK campaign with Alvaro Bautista's and Scott Reddings in 2019 and 2020 respectively, and ask if the Pata Yamaha rider has the consistency to finally defeat Rea for the championship.

They also take a long look at the track limits controversy, which saw Toprak lose out on his first clean sweep of wins on a weekend. How did the penalty come about, and is it a good idea?

I've read Gordon Ritchie's WSBK reports for decades now (Cycle News here in the U.S.). I really look forward to his insight and detail. And I readily admit that I am phonectically compromised. But where is the Google Gordo-to-English translator?  Or a simple app that adds back all the missing consonants? For me at least, Gordo is sometimes hard to understand in a podcast.

Anyway, thanks for a great expert discussion of a very interesting race weekend.

... that the audio quality on the SBK PPP's (esp. Gordo) has been generally so inferior to that of the MotoGP ones.  I'm fairly ok with strong Scotch accents but in combination with the poor audio quality makes it very difficult I agree.  Here again Gordo sounds like he's broadcasting from an air conditioning duct.  A $20 headset or lapel mic would be a worthy investment!

Regarding the content, great show and a good take on the unsavoury KRT/Rea protest.
