More Sponsorship For MotoGP: eReader Kobo Joins Ducati, Bel-Ray Back With Aspar

As the start of the 2013 MotoGP season approaches, the search for sponsors continues apace. In the past couple of days, Ducati announced a partnership with eReader maker Kobo, and the Power Electronics Aspar team renewed their agreement with oil and lubricant brand Bel-Ray. Below are the press releases announcing the partnerships:

Ducati Team and Kobo join forces for the 2013 MotoGP season

Kobo, a global leader in eReading, and Ducati are proud to announce that the companies have joined forces for the 2013 MotoGP season. The two companies have aligned to showcase their mutual dedication to technology, innovation, and global commerce. Fans of the sport will see the Ducati Team wearing the Kobo logo on their leathers, team clothing, and displayed on the bikes during the 18-round World Championship. The partnership celebrates the success Kobo has experienced in Italy, with the company tripling its 2012 sales forecasts thanks to the tremendous uptake of digital reading by Italians.

“Kobo and Ducati share a passion for innovation, excellence, and powerful technology,” said Jean-Marc Dupuis, Managing Director of EMEA, Kobo. “We are thrilled to bring this partnership to our fans who share the same passion for the best experience no matter whether in sport, a bike, a book, or an eReader.”

Alessandro Cicognani, Ducati Motor Holding Head of Sponsorship, said: “The partnership with Kobo confirms the strength of the Ducati brand, and will help to further promote the rapidly-growing eReader segment. It contributes to Ducati’s reputation as a company that appeals to a young, knowledgeable, and technologically-minded public, as well as one that continues to attract a variety of product sponsors to racing.”

Kobo, an international eReading company with more than 3.2-million eBooks across 68 languages, brought its eReading devices and services to Italy in October 2012 through its strategic partnership with Mondadori, Italy’s biggest magazines and book publisher, owner of the largest network of stores in the country and of one of Italy’s biggest online media stores. Since that time, Kobo’s strength in the Italian market has grown tremendously with Italians quickly adopting digital reading – with 2012 sales forecasts tripling initial expectations. With its current trajectory, Kobo expects to achieve the majority market share in Italy for eReading devices and content by the end of 2013. The company has plans to expand beyond the current stores currently offering its award-winning devices, which include the Kobo Glo and Kobo Mini E Ink eReaders, and the Kobo Arc 7” Google-certified tablet, which recently won the red dot: Product Design 2013 award.

Bel-Ray Continues Support of Team Aspar for 2013 Season

Spanish Team Relies on American Made Lubricants to Succeed

Bel-Ray announces its continued sponsorship of Team Aspar for the 2013 MotoGP, Moto2, and Moto3 seasons following a successful 2012 debut season.

In the MotoGP class, the Power Electronics Aspar Team features the same line-up that produced strong results in 2012. Aleix Espargaró and Randy De Puniet are returning to the team for another season. They were the top two CRT riders in the championship and will again be riding the ART machine. In pre-season testing, the duo consistently set the fastest times in their category.

The team’s entry in the Moto2 class will consist of Spanish racers Jordi Torres and Nico Terol. Both racers were on the team at the end of the 2012 season and they're back with strong off-season testing results.

Bel-Ray will support Jonas Folger as a member of the team in the Moto3 class. Many people have picked this talented German rider to be a top contender for the World Championship title this season. He scored four podium finishes with the team in 2012 including a victory in Brno last August.

“Bel-Ray has a long history in the Spanish market, supplying the most technically advanced lubricants throughout the Powersports industry,” said Bel-Ray Chief Operating Officer Jennifer Liquori. “We are thrilled to be aligned with Team Aspar, and their similar history of performance, integrity, and winning."

Aspar Team Owner, Jorge Martínez, spoke about the Bel-Ray relationship, saying: “It is very important for us to have the collaboration of a sponsor as prestigious as Bel-Ray. Team Aspar will continue to be the biggest private team in the World Championship competition next season, with a presence in the Moto3, Moto2, and MotoGP classes. Bel Ray will support us in all three classes.”

The team will use the same race-proven Bel-Ray products that can be found on dealers’ shelves across the globe and will make its 2013 racing debut on April 7, 2013 in Qatar, then continue to participate in races around the world concluding in Valencia on November 10, 2013.

So are Amazon Kindle and Barnes + Noble Nook logos going to be on the Yamaha and Hondas?

If Kobo wants to do something crazy, like post a YouTube video of the team they're sponsoring, how much $$$$ will it cost them to license the footage?
