Zarco completes Official Test at Jerez

Ajo Motorsport rider ends three-day test at the Spanish track satisfied with pace and eager to improve one-off lap times.

The first Moto2 Official Test of the year concluded on Friday at the Jerez Circuit, with reigning World Champion Johann Zarco undertaking just one of the three sessions scheduled for the final day. With his testing workload for the week completed, the Frenchman set a best lap of 1:43.025, less than one tenth off his best overall time for the three days –1:42.952, 14th– .

Fog and a track temperature below 20ºC prevented riders from going out in the first scheduled run of the day. It was in the second when all of the intermediate class were able to put in their opening laps. As he was yesterday, Zarco completed the second highest amount of laps in the session. With a best time of 1:43.025, the Frenchman finished 12th in the combined timesheet for the day –and stood out for his pace on used tyres.

Happy with all the tests undertaken this week, Zarco and his crew packed up before the final session of the day. The Ajo Motorsport Team will next travel to Qatar for the final Official Test, which takes place from March 11th-13th and preludes the opening Grand Prix of the season.

"After three days it is a pity that I could not go as fast as I wanted to here. I have not had a good enough feeling to push harder. We have been trying many setups and I think we have the right one with which to go fast, but I haven’t shown that this week. It’s not a big drama, because with used tyres I am still very consistent and running a similar pace to my rivals; however, with the new rubber we haven’t been able to improve the lap times. That's why I'm a little disappointed, but for now we don’t want to overreach and make a mistake before Qatar, which is where we will have the final test and the first race. Next week is all about working hard and getting strong for the start of the season."

"It was important to have these three days of Official Testing here at Jerez. After the private test we performed here a couple of weeks ago, we are pleased to have been able to enjoy good conditions for riding. Being able to test with the rest of the teams on the grid is always good. Zarco and the whole team have done a great job, completing many laps, testing all kinds of setups and evaluating the results to find the best base for Qatar –the first event of the year. At this point in the preseason, the most important thing was putting in as many kilometres as we could to get useful feedback for the first race. Now it is time to focus on the last three days of testing, in Qatar."


The Leopard Racing team conclude the first official IRTA test as Jerez, getting a first taste of what 2016 may hold.

Today was the third and final day of the first official IRTA in Jerez, the first occasion Leopard Racing have lined up against their 2016 rivals on the same circuit. 2016 will be a new adventure for Leopard Racing, both pilots and their technicians are learning the Kalex that Danny Kent and Miguel Oliveira will contest for the season.

The first session of the day went to waste due to heavy fog and unusually cold weather for the Andalusia region. In the final two sessions the pair of Leopard Racing riders rolled up their sleeves and got to work.

Moto3 World Champion, Danny Kent, focused on different geometry solutions as his knowledge of the Dunlop tyres continues to deepen. The Portuguese rider, Miguel Oliveira, was still not physically perfect with his injured right hand and dedicated the third and final day to an overall assessment of his Kalex.

Danny Kent concluded the test in 10th today and in 12th overall, within 0.1s of Stefan Bradl record lap from 2011 and just over a second back on Axel Pons’ test leading time. Meanwhile Miguel Oliveira concluding the three-day event in 23rdplace and 0.8s back on his teammate. Both riders will now have several days to prepare before they head to Qatar for their final pre-season test and the first race of 2016.

#44 Miguel OLIVEIRA - 23th (1:44.516):

“Today the aim was to regain confidence that I lost during yesterday’s fall. It was a very difficult day. Summing up this IRTA Test: the first day was really good, but then the second day saw us go in the wrong direction with the setting of the bike. In this class if you’re not 100% sure of what you’re doing, you quickly find yourself at the bottom of the time sheets. I still want to look at these results positively, we already have clear ideas to bring to Qatar.”

#52 Danny KENT - 10th (1:42.874):

“We’ve been doing a lot of work over these three days, it has been very important for me and my crew chief Peter. We’ve been trying many different settings with the different tyres. We have the Dunlop test tyres here so we still have a lot to do an learn with them and the other options. With different tyres we get different feedback and have a different feeling with the bike. There were three different tyres here but when we go to Qatar we will only have two different tyres. Me as a rider, I still have to get used to the tyre as I’m still not at the limit with each tyre. Step by step we’re making small progress. At the moment I think my position is anywhere between eighth and 12th, we’ve been consistently around here. We’re roughly just under a second off the fastest lap. I still feel there’s a lot more to come from myself and I feel there’s a lot more to come from myself. The three days in Qatar will be useful as there’s still a lot to do.”

Productive Jerez test for Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS

Jerez, Spain – 4 March 2016: The first official Moto2 test of 2016 proved a productive one for Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS riders Álex Márquez and Franco Morbidelli, both of whom completed an extensive test program over the course of three days at Jerez.

Márquez declared himself satisfied with the test, despite being hampered on the bike by the left wrist he fractured less than two weeks ago. The 19-year-old was forced to limit the number of laps each day, but still managed to exceed his target lap time and complete the full test program.

The Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS rider focussed mainly on refining the suspension set up in Jerez, running back to back comparisons of various front fork and rear shock settings, with positive results. Márquez now heads to the second and final official test in Qatar with a better understanding of the 2016 Kalex and confident the wrist injury will be much improved with the additional recovery time.

For Morbidelli the three days at Jerez was an opportunity to continue the familiarisation process, both with the Kalex Moto2 machine he’ll campaign in Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS colours this season and his new crew.

The 21-year-old Italian made constant progress over the course of the test, posting his fastest ever lap of the Jerez circuit on the second of the three days, as well as working his way through an extensive test and evaluation program. Morbidelli leaves Jerez satisfied with his race pace, but determined to improve his speed over a single flying lap during the next test in Qatar.

Morbidelli and Márquez will now head from Jerez to Madrid for the official launch of the Estrella Galicia 0,0 racing program, which takes place on Monday 7th March at the Casa Del Lector in Madrid’s Matadero complex, before heading back to Qatar for the final preseason test of 2016.

Álex Márquez: 15th – 1’42.953

“To be able to ride here at Jerez with a reasonable pace just one week after the surgery on my wrist is like a win for us. In some areas the wrist was definitely an issue, but over the three days we’ve tried out many things that are so important before we head to Qatar. Now we have a clear idea of the direction we need to take with the bike. At the Qatar test I expect the wrist to be better; maybe still not 100% but at least good enough to allow me to push harder for a lap time. I’m not happy, because I wanted to go faster and be closer to the top of the timesheet, but given the injury I think we’ve done a really good job here and now I’m even more motivated for Qatar.”

Franco Morbidelli: 18th – 1’43.155

“We’ve tested a lot of different things over the three days, amassing a lot of data that we can use to improve the bike further ahead of the next test. Most important for me was the improvement; I set my fastest ever lap of Jerez yesterday, so we have definitely progressed and I’m happy about that. Now my pace over the longer runs is acceptable, but we still need to work to find more speed for those one-off fast laps in qualifying, because starting from near the front of the grid is critical in Moto2. This is something we will focus on at the next test in Qatar.”

Michael Bartholemy: Team Principal

“While Álex was unable to do as many laps as he maybe wanted to because of his injured wrist, his lap time was good and the work that he’s done here on suspension settings will stand him in good stead during the next test in Qatar. It was good to see that Franco’s confidence in both the bike and what his crew are telling him increasing each day and his lap times improving significantly as a result. There is still work to be done to get him closer to the guys at the top of the timesheet, but he made a big step here in Jerez. While it’s true that we’re not used to being so far down the timesheet, I think we will see a big improvement from both riders in Qatar, as Franco’s confidence continues to increase and Álex’s wrist improves.”

Baldassarri third at the end of Jerez test

Testing has just ended at Jerez for Lorenzo Baldassarri and Luca Marini. The two riders of the Forward Racing get off their bike today to jump back on it in Qatar. It was a great day for Lorenzo who posted a stratospheric 1:42.174 placing third in the three-day rankings and the first of the Italians. Luca Marini was not able to improve his lap-time as he missed most of the last session because of a harmless crash. The Italian ended-up in 19th place in the combined timesheets with a 1:43.238.

After the first morning session was canceled due to foggy weather conditions, Balda focused on the lap time by clocking several passages in the low 1:42s. The Italian ended the test with good sensations for the start of the season.

Marini has instead focused its attention on finding the set-up, unfortunately the rider of the VR46 Riders Academy crashed at the beginning of the third practice session remedying few bruises to his left hand and missing the possibility to get back on track.

Lorenzo Baldassarri

"I am very happy with today, we have tried different solutions on the front and rear and eventually I went on track for a time attack. I am happy with the time; I feel very good on the bike and I'm confident for Qatar. Now I can relax a bit and then we start again".

Luca Marini

"Today we went ahead with the development of the set-up, there are still some things I need to fix but in general the feeling is good. Today I have not focused so much on the lap-time but rather on the race pace. Shame about the crash however I remain very happy with this first official test ".

Red Bull KTM Ajo round off Official Test in Jerez

Brad Binder and Bo Bendsneyder complete three days in Southern Spain with second and thirteenth best times on Friday.

Friday was an important and productive working day for Red Bull KTM Ajo at the Moto3 Official Test in Jerez. Despite not being able to get out on track in the first hour and the presence of a strong wind, Brad Binder –31 laps– and Bo Bendsneyder –42 laps– were able to improve their feeling with their KTM bikes and set their best lap time of the three days. The young riders finish the three intense days of testing satisfied, and feel ready for the final stage of preseason in Qatar.

For the second consecutive day, a low track temperatures prevented the Red Bull KTM Ajo riders going out on track in the first session. Just like yesterday, Binder was the fastest in the second hour –1:46.618– improving his best time by a few thousandths. Bendsneyder improved his best overall time in the last session; he used the time available to the fullest: In the very last minute of the test, he set a time of 1:47.730 and placed in the Top 10 for the session. At the end of the three days, Binder was fifth overall and Bendsneyder nineteenth.

After three intense days of work, Red Bull KTM Ajo now travel to Qatar, where the last preseason test takes place on March 11th-13th –one week before the first GP of 2016.

Brad Binder - Rider

"Today went well. Although we weren’t able to ride in the first session due to the bad weather conditions, in the second session –with less wind– I felt really good. I rode very fast and I felt very comfortable with the bike. We made some changes from yesterday and we found many improvements. This afternoon we still had some things to work on. We had used tyres on, and when we put on the fresh rubber we saw a leap in performance that convinced us we could conclude the session. We are ready to go to Qatar. Each track has different challenges, so we still do not know what will we test in Qatar. But in this test I felt very comfortable with the bike and I'm happy."

Bo Bendsndeyder - Rider

"It was good to finish the test with my personal best lap of the three days. Besides that, it was not an easy day because it was very windy in the final session. I would have liked to have set the time yesterday, because there was no wind then and I could have gone even faster, but its part of our preparation. The truth is that I felt better today than yesterday –much better. We have been more consistent with our lap times, with better pace, and I'm satisfied because we worked hard for it. Now we have Qatar on the horizon. It will be a new circuit for me, but we will have three days to work there and keep going forward. I feel we're ready to face the challenge."

"This was three good days of testing with pretty good weather, although today the wind caused a few problems. Overall, we cannot complain. We should be happy with Brad [Binder], because he have improved his consistency on track. He has taken a step forward in recent months: He is calmer both on the track and in the garage. I like this because he has a good pace now and set some great lap times. I am sure that in the future he will be able to continue in this direction and fight for the top positions from the start. With Bo [Bendsneyder], everything went very well. It is normal for a World Championship rookie to make a lot of mistakes, but he has made only a few early on. It isn’t easy to improve your times day after day. I am pleased with his attitude and hope he continues to work the same way next week in Qatar."


Quartararo, Mir and Locatelli have completed the first official IRTA test of the year at Jerez de la Frontera.

A morning struck with abnormally cold and foggy conditions stopped the Leopard Racing team during the first session of the final day in Jerez. Dense and very low fog along with temperatures of just 13°C saw only seven riders take to the track.

Fortunately during the second half of the day the clouds thinned and the sun warmed the 4.4km long circuit, allowing riders to give their maximum in the last sessions. Fabio Quartararo, who today tried different engine mappings, was able end the test in 8th today and 12th overall.

Rookie Joan Mir went even better with new tyres and adjustments to his rear suspension, the Spaniard closed the second session with the second fastest lap time. This saw him finish in 3rd today and seventh overall. It would have been a perfect test for Mir, but a fall late in the day saw him suffer a contusion to his left arm.

Work for Andrea Locatelli saw him and his team focus mainly on the chassis of his new KTM RC250 GP, the Italian still suffering from the blow to his hip he received early yesterday afternoon. He gritted his teeth and was able to gather a lot of information for his technicians. Locatelli ended in 21st overall.

The next official IRTA test takes place in Qatar, just ahead of the first race of the 2016 season which begins on the 20th of March at the Losail Circuit.

#20 Fabio QUARTARARO - 8th (1:47.373):

“They were three positive days, perhaps the second was a bit trickier for me. Today we managed to keep a good rhythm in the last session. The last few laps saw us try to force it a bit and I did my best lap time even with some mistakes and traffic on track. I want to thank my team for the great work done and I am sure that we will improve in Qatar.”

#36 Joan MIR - 3rd (1:46.725):

“I am very happy with how I went across these three days in Jerez. We have found some good solutions. Although I suffered a fall in the last moments, it was not anything serious. I’m fine and it’s just a small bruise to my arm. I will give it three to four days of rest and we’ll be back in shape. Above all, I managed to improve my lap time from the previous tests here. Together with the team we improved the bike and we have a good base to go to Qatar with confidence.”

#55 Andrea LOCATELLI - 28th (1:48.742):

“Today I just tried to run as much as I could and even though I experienced hip and neck pain I tried to keep pushing, but it was hard. It was not worth risking too much in these conditions and I stopped. It was a shame, but at least I have not done anything serious. In these three days we have tried so many things and I am quite satisfied. Now we head to Qatar where we are expecting another three days of solid testing on the same track which will host the first race.”

Positive IRTA Test at Jerez for Guevara and Rodrigo


Jerez de la Frontera, Spain

The first of the two official IRTA tests of the 2016 season wrapped up today: the teams from the Moto3 World Championship took advantage of three days at the circuit of Jerez to prepare the setting of their machines, as the first race of the year approaches.

Despite some crashes without physical consequences, the RBA Racing riders improved the times they had previously set at Andalusian track for the private test: these sessions were important to try out various suspension settings, as well as the new hard compound.

Juanfran Guevara ends the test in 13th position (1:47.353), less than one second off the best lap time. Thanks to the hard work done with his technicians, the youngster improved step by step in his adaptation to the KTM bike.

These were three positive days for Gabriel Rodrigo, too, who set the 16th time (1:47.504), despite the injury in his left foot.

#58 Juanfran Guevara: 13th - 1:47.353

“During these three days we worked a lot: we focused on the set-up for the hot lap and also on the choice for the race tyres. We tried out various changes for the rear part of the motorbike, in order to find more grip when exiting turns. We have to finalise some changes to improve in the corners. During today’s sessions we also worked on the race pace, making long runs: in this way we found out where we have to improve and the direction we need to take for Qatar. We could have been faster today, but because of a red flag and some other reasons we didn’t manage to. Luckily enough we know that we can do better than this and it’ll be of great use in Losail.”

#19 Gabriel Rodrigo: 16th - 1:47.504

“This test went quite well. We had some matters pending because of my foot injury, from the crash I had in the private test here in Jerez last week. We caught up with what we had to confirm and we worked a lot on the setting of the bike: each time I feel more and more confident on my KTM. Yesterday we set our best time. Today the track wasn’t in the same conditions, but we still managed to set a similar time. We leave Jerez on a positive note, we put together a lot of information and the long run we did today will help us to go further in Qatar. Now we look forwards to getting to Doha for the test, to get ready for the first race of the season.”


Aboard the Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 Kalex, Sam Lowes closed on top the third and final day of official Moto2 testing at Jerez de la Frontera, with a time of 1’42”075. The 25-year-old British rider therefore put the seal on three extremely positive days on track, in which he has always been among the fastest, also putting on display an incredibly good race pace. Today Lowes has in fact completed a long run of 15 laps with a rhythm constantly under the 1’43” mark, setting 1’42”2 on the final lap.

The team now moves to Qatar for the final pre-season testing session, at Losail circuit from 11 to 13 March, before the Grand Prix season opener.

SAM LOWES (1st - 1'42"075)

“It’s been a fantastic day, we worked really hard in the first two days and today we managed to keep the same direction. This morning I did a long run with 15 laps all in 1’42”, the last one in 1’42”2, which is incredible. In the afternoon we tried some new parts from Kalex, then in the final stages we pushed a little bit for the lap time, but not at the maximum, still doing a good job. I’m really happy because we ended the test in second position, but I was the fastest today. For sure we have the best pace and we can fight to win, this is the target. A massive thank you to the team, I can’t wait for Qatar!”.


“We leave Jerez with very positive results and with a lot of confidence: the team worked very well in all three days of testing, and Sam, who is finding himself really at ease both with the Kalex bike and with Ohlins suspension, has completed some long runs with an excellent pace, constantly improving himself day by day. I would like to thank Sam for the effort he’s putting in and all the guys of the team because they are doing a fantastic job”.

Tech3 pair primed for Qatar Test after positive Jerez outing

Tech3 Racing Team riders Xavi Vierge and Isaac Viñales closed the three day Jerez test with encouraging results after tirelessly lapping the circuit in preparation for the 2016 Moto2 World Championship.

Xavi Vierge undertook a relentless charge as he completed a mammoth 175 laps across three days, with his personal best being set in the opening session yesterday. This time was seven tenths of a second faster than his quickest lap on day one as the young Spaniard focused on the new KYB suspension package as well as the 2016 Mistral 610 chassis, with the results being encouraging. The performance leaves the 18 year old confident of clinching point scoring finishes in the forthcoming season. Meanwhile, Isaac Viñales pushed hard in all three days as he positively continues to adapt his riding style to the physical nature of the Moto2 class. In addition, he concentrated on the front feeling of the Mistral 610 and his efforts saw him cut 0.878 from his fastest lap from the opening session. Now, he optimistically looks on to the final test and is poised for further advances.

Xavi Vierge

Position : 20th - Time : 1'43.329 – Laps : 175

“I am very happy with how the test went and we accomplished a lot in these three days of testing. I sampled a lot of new components and parts from KYB and the Tech3 Racing Team and there is a big improvement in every area compared to last year’s bike. I am feeling very positive about the upcoming Qatar test and it’s fair to say that we have definitely taken a step forward from last season. The team have done a great job and have worked very hard over the winter, but now the big contest is almost here! I am looking forward to riding at the Losail International Circuit for the first time. Thanks to the Tech3 Racing Team and KYB for their hard work, I can’t wait to get back on the Mistral 610.”

Isaac Viñales

Position : 27th - Time : 1'44.261 – Laps : 150

“Overall, my feeling at the end of the test is positive and we had a lot of things to try but we will go to Qatar full of confidence. For me, the biggest factor that I had to focus on was adapting my riding style in order to suit the Moto2 bike and I tried to improve this lap by lap. In addition, another main point was trying to establish a good base where I feel comfortable, which I feel we succeeded with. Now, we will all head to Qatar where the whole grid will use the official 2016 engines and the same tyres so it will be very interesting to see the lap times there and I’m excited to see what we can do.”


It closes today the first official IRTA test of the season on the Andalusian circuit. Fenati is the fastest, positive feelings also for Migno and Bulega, both in the Top10 .

Despite the fog that has prevented the access to the track during the first practice sessions of this morning, the riders of the Sky Racing Team VR46 continued the development of the new KTM at Jerez de la Frontera. After three days of testing, the Italian trio collected great feelings on the track and they are ready to leave for Qatar confident they can improve also there.

Romano Fenati closed the three days of testing with a best of 1.46.445, recorded during the last session of yesterday that earned him the first place. The italian was really fast and competitive on his KTM and he is looking forward to getting back on track next week in Qatar. Positive test also for Andrea Migno, who reached the right setting base for Qatar. With the good 1.47.021 of yesterday he is 10th in the combined standings of the three days. Great debut also for Nicolò Bulega. The leader of the first day, with his 1.46.539 is the fastest today and the third in the combined.

I’m satisfied, we close the first IRTA test with all our riders in the Top10, two even in the top three. We are really confident for Qatar but we have to stay calm and keep focused on the development to be able to make another step forward. All three riders are on the right way, I’m looking forward to getting back on track in Doha.


It was not an easy test, but I was really strong and I’m satisfied. I did not find the same feeling of the last test, but on the track I was able to push. We still have much work ahead of us in Qatar.


Overall I am satisfied, although my goal was the 1.46. We did a great job and I’m confident I can make one more step forward. I go to Qatar with a little bitter taste in my mouth, but I’m also motivated to give my best.


I am very happy: I closed my first test in the World Championship in the third place overall. I’m confident ahead of Qatar where my goal is to adapt as soon as possible at the new track. Today, despite the wind, I scored my best and I am quite sure that I can make another step forward in Doha.

RW Racing GP heads to Qatar with confidence after promising test

After a promising three days test in Jerez Livio Loi and RW Racing GP head to Qatar with confidence. Loi concluded the three days in eighth overall with the result he recorded on the second day (1.46,890).

On the third and final day of the Moto3 test in Jerez Loi only ran 25 laps. In the early session it was too cold and foggy to ride. Only seven riders went out. “It wasn’t of much use to ride in those conditions,” RW Racing GP team manager Jarno Janssen commented. “We skipped the last one on the day as well. We had planned so in advance and decided to stick to that plan, as we had to pack for Qatar and Livio had a plane to catch.”

In the one session left - the second one of the last day - Loi ran a best lap time of 1.47,837 that saw him finish in twelfth. “We know what we wanted to know,” Janssen said, “and in six days we have another test, in Qatar. We fly there on Wednesday. We are happy with the results of this test and some rest is also important.”

Livio Loi too was pleased with the three days of testing. “We have done a lot of work and quite some interesting things,” the Belgian stated. “I’ve made some big steps, mainly in riding consistent fast laps. The pace has improved a lot. That’s important for qualifying and for the race of course. The feeling is great.”


Gresini Racing Team Moto3 riders spent much of the last day of testing at Jerez in the pits: after the morning fog disrupted the first session, Enea Bastianini put in only 7 laps in the second of today’s three sessions, before stopping bothered by a bad cold. Even his teammate Fabio Di Giannantonio completed only seven laps in the second session, before a crash that didn’t allow him to resume testing in the afternoon.

However, despite a last little productive final day, the overall test results are positive for Bastianini, who worked extensively on various aspects of the set-up of his Honda and was always among the fastest on the track in all three days, even without trying the soft tyre for a fast lap. In the combined classification of the three days the gap from the fastest is in fact less than 0.3 seconds: 1’46”725 the best lap obtained yesterday by Enea, against Romano Fenati’s 1’46”445.

As for Di Giannantonio, after a positive first day of testing the 17-year-old rookie from Rome had two crashes, both of which occurred at Turn 5, which slowed down his apprenticeship. Today Fabio fortunately suffered only a bruised right elbow, but the damage to the bike didn’t allow him to resume testing in the third and final session available today.

Now the team moves to Qatar for the final pre-season test, scheduled at the Losail circuit from 11 to 13 March, before the Grand Prix season opener.

ENEA BASTIANINI (6th - 1'46"725)

“It was a strange day... In the morning there was no good weather to go out on track, then the sun came out, but after a few laps in the second session I decided to stop because I did’not feel very good. I have a bad cold that bothers me and I didn’t want to risk, because in the first two days we were able to do the work that we had planned. All in all I’m satisfied with these tests, although there has never been an opportunity to make a fast lap: hovewer, this is not important in testing. I’m happy with the bike and how the team is working and although we still need to improve in some areas, I’m convinced that in the final pre-season test in Qatar we will find good solutions to get ready for the first Grand Prix”.

FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO (29th - 1'48"539)

“At the beginning of the second session things were going pretty well: I was already fast enough, then unfortunately I repeated the same mistake of yesterday, crashing at turn 5... The bike was too damaged and so I was not able to get back on track in the last session. I have only a bruise in my right elbow, nothing is broken. I’m very sorry for the team, because today we did only a few laps”.


“Compared to the previous tests performed here at Jerez, in these three days we have taken some important steps forward: Enea always remained very close to the top, although he didn’t use the soft tyre, so I think he’s already in a condition to fight at the top. Today, unfortunately, was not feeling very well physically, but in these days he worked well with the team, so we look forward to the final test in Qatar with confidence. Di Giannantonio unfortunately suffered a crash both yesterday and today: today the bike suffered extensive damage and consequently Fabio has not had the opportunity to continue test in the last session. We remain confident: it takes time and patience to grow”.

Navarro closes Jerez test as second fastest rider

Estrella Galicia 0,0 rider Jorge Navarro places fifth on the Friday timesheets at Official Test, going second overall thanks to his fast Thursday time. Teammate Aron Canet concludes first test since return from injury in eighteenth.

Today saw the third and final day of the Moto3 Official Test at Jerez, in which fog and wind had a big influence on track time. The Estrella Galicia 0,0 riders sat out the opening session available to them, waiting until fog had cleared and grip was higher in the second session at 2pm.

A pleasant 19°C ambient temperature made the day more comfortable, and Jorge Navarro felt enough at ease to lead most of the second session –placing third after 24 laps of the Circuito de Jerez.

Later, with the wind picking up, the riders found it more difficult to set better times than they had on Thursday. However, the Estrella Galicia 0,0 duo used their track time to make further adjustments to both their setups and riding styles.

Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 now move on to Qatar, where they undertake a second and final Official Test from March 11th -13th.

"Today was a strange day, because when we have arrived at the circuit in the morning it was very foggy and we decided not to go out then -since there was not much grip. In the afternoon it was hard to improve on the times from yesterday due to the wind, which was not too strong but was a bother for a Moto3 bike. Nevertheless, I am happy with the work we have done because we have fine-tuned some small details that we needed to improve on from yesterday.

Overall, this has been three days of very productive testing, because we have found a good compromise with the setup of the bike that has enabled me to ride with confidence. I have also worked on a few aspects of my riding style and I think we are on the right track. We can go to the next Official Test in Qatar next week with confidence."

"Today's work was strongly influenced by the weather. The day started with a lot of fog and the track did not offer a lot of grip, so we decided not to risk things and we sat out the first session. We started to ride in the afternoon, in the second session, and it was difficult to find a good feeling because it was a little windy.

However, I can make a positive assessment of the test because we ran a good pace -despite having been off the bike for four months. We worked step-by-step here and we managed to improve our lap times every day; today the conditions were not the best and we didn’t completely finish off our workload –which makes me even more eager for next week’s test in Qatar.”
