Binder wins at Silverstone as Bendsneyder joins him on podium

Red Bull KTM Ajo team take podium double at British GP, with Brad Binder victorious and Bo Bendsneyder placing on the rostrum for the first time.

The Red Bull KTM Ajo team enjoyed a sensational Sunday at Silverstone, with Brad Binder and Bo Bendsneyder both finishing on the podium at the British Grand Prix. The Moto3 World Championship leader won out in a battle involving up to 14 riders, performing strongly in the final stages of the race. Bendsneyder rounded off a very consistent weekend with the first podium of his Grand Prix career, placing third.

A large group involving the pair was formed at the start of the race. Binder attempted to break away on the early laps, but the use of slipstreams by his rivals continually reeled him back in. Instead, he and Bendsneyder would focus on remaining part of the pack and biding their time until the end.

In the final stages, the Red Bull KTM Ajo pair moved to the front of the group, with Bendsneyder moving up through the Top 10 to first place on the last lap. The Dutchman was passed by Binder before the chequered flag, as the World Championship leader claimed his fourth win of the year, and he held on for third place at Silverstone.

With two-thirds of the season completed, Binder leads the general classification with 204 points -86 more than his nearest rival. Bendsneyder's podium enables him to ride six places in the overall standings, lying thirteenth with 52 points to his name.

Mahindra Second as Bagnaia Climbs Championship Ladder

Silverstone, 04 September 2016: Team Aspar Mahindra rider Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia fought to a brilliant second place finish in a hold-your-breath Moto3 battle at Silverstone today, finishing less than two tenths of a second away from victory at the sharp end of a 12-strong brawl.

The Italian teenager had started from his first pole position, and fought every inch of the 17 laps of the long and technically challenging 5.9-km British circuit to stay at the front of a massive group, with riders changing places at every one of the 18 corners.

It came down to cool-headed tactics in a hot-headed group. Bagnaia started the last lap in third place, but used his experience to move up to second, finally crossing the line right in the slipstream of race and championship leader Brad Binder (KTM). It gave him 20 valuable points, moving him up to third overall in the championship, just eight points short of second-placed Jorge Navarro (Honda), who crashed out of today’s race.

It was almost two Mahindras on the podium, with wild card Stefano Manzi (Mahindra Racing) making blazing progress from 34th on the grid to join the lead pack in the early stages. The 17-year-old Italian fought to the end, holding his own among the biggest names in the fiercely competitive Moto3 class. And it was almost three MGP3Os in the top ten, with second Aspar Team rider Jorge Martin eleventh in spite of a penalty that had obliged him to drop back in the leading group.

Second at Silverstone is a second successive podium finish for the only Indian constructor in the World Championship, and continues Mahindra’s best ever season. Bagnaia claimed the MGP3O’s first win at Assen, and has been in the top three five times; while Martin claimed his first podium, finishing second at Brno two weeks ago. The winner there was Mahindra’s sister brand Peugeot, with John McPhee taking his first win on the MGP3O.

The intensive MotoGP season moves directly to Italy next weekend, for the San Marino and Rimini GP at Misano, where Mahindra Racing will celebrate its 100th Gran Prix race start.

Francesco Bagnaia – Second Place

“It was a very difficult race, because everyone wanted to stay in front, and the two factory KTMs were very fast on the straight. But in the first sector the Mahindra’s good handling meant I was really fast, and I could also overtake in braking, so that was good for me. I am happy with this performance, and third in the championship is really important for me, for the team, and for Mahindra.”

Stefano Manzi – Fourth Place

“Starting from the last row of the grid I didn’t have high expectations but I just wanted to aim for a points finish. I managed to get up to the top group of 15 and found that I could battle with them comfortably and nobody was making the break, so I just went for it. I really thought I had a chance of a podium until I had the coming together with Navarro. I am so sorry that he and Migno fell. I lost a bit of time then, but I am really happy with the result. The team did a fantastic job and the bike was perfect everywhere on the track, slow or fast.”

Bulega and Migno fight in the leading group til the last corner. Niclolò is fifth, while Andrea falls down after a contact with two laps to the checkered flag. Nineteenth at the debut Dalla Porta.

Silverstone (UK), September 4th, 2016 - After a great battle til the last corner, Nicolò Bulega crossed the finishing line of the British GP in fifth position. The young talent of the Sky Racing Team VR46 is in the Top5 for the fourth time in this season. Andrea Migno, was hit by the bike of Jorge Navarro when he was close to the leaders, 19th under the checkered flag Lorenzo Dalla Porta.

Nicolò, ninth on the grid, after a tough start, reduced the gap with the strongest guys fighting in the front group til the last corner. With the points scored today he is fifth in the Championship, first of the rookies. Protagonist of a great battle also Andrea, who crashed after a collision with Navarro’s bike. After he checked that Jorge was fit, he re-joined the race. Lorenzo closed the first race with SKY VR46 in 19th place. After a good start, he was forced to reduce the pace due to the pain in his left shoulder.

PABLO NIETO - Team Manager

What a race: beautiful, exciting and full of overtaking. Nicolò has once again scored the Top5, at debut on a difficult track as Silverstone. We are very pleased: he was able to fight with the strongest guys and he has signed the fastest lap of the race. I have to say congratulations to Andrea. He started from the back, he gave everything and he was able to recover a lot of positions. He was unlucky : in the crash he had no responsibility and he could not do anything to prevent it. He has to keep working in this direction. Lorenzo finished a first positive weekend with the team. After a good start – when he was in the points – a pain in his left shoulders forced him to reduce the pace.

Andrea Migno

We did a great job all the weekend, we never gave up and we have found the right setting for the race. I was strong, I recovered several positions and I was fighting in the front group. Two laps to the end, Navarro fell down in front of me and I could not do anything to prevent the crash. It was a pity, I’m looking forward to back on track in Misano.

Nicolo Bulega

I had not a good start, but right from the first laps I found a good rhythm. I reduced the gap with the leading group and I fought til the last corner. On the last lap I gave my best and I scored once again the Top5 on a technical track as Silverstone. I can not wait to get back on track at Misano.

Lorenzo Dalla Porta

I had a positive start and I was in the points, but after a couple of laps I started to feeling pain in the shoulder. I struggled in turns 14, 15, and 16 and I lost several tenths every lap. I could not push as I wanted, but despite the pain, I managed to cross the finishing line. Overall we did a good job this weekend and we can make another step in Misano.

Locked in Loi leaves Silverstone empty-handed

Only halfway through the Moto3 race of the British Grand Prix Livio Loi was able to open the gas properly. After being locked in at the start RW Racing GP’s Belgian couldn’t find a way through the pack. By the time he did, the gap was too big to overcome. Loi ended the race in a disappointing 21st.

The British Grand Prix was a crazy race in all aspects. Riders that started from way back on the grid managed to get to the front and fight for the win, sometimes dangerously interfering with the top group. Unfortunately Livio Loi wasn’t able to move up like that after getting locked in at the start. Loi was even pushed back because of that and was fighting for 29th.

It took until lap 8 (of 17) to finally get to the front of the group. From there Loi was able to close a gap of 2,5 seconds and get to the next group in about one lap time.

From that point on it took little effort to move up to 23rd, but the gap of over 15 seconds to the next group was far too big to overcome. Loi was able to break away from the group, only to find himself riding all alone as the difference to the group ahead of him didn’t get any smaller.

Two crashes from the front runners promoted Loi to finish in 21st: empty-handed.

Livio Loi - 21 (+ 32,397)

“This was a race to forget quickly. It just didn’t work out. I got locked in at the start and was held up and therefore I couldn’t get through, even while I did have the pace. When I finally got through, I could easily overcome the gap but way too late. It is extra painful to see guys like Manzi and Di Giannantonio ending up at the front while they were behind me on the grid.”

Silverstone, United Kingdom

Today the Moto3 riders got out on track for the twelfth race of the 2016 season, at the circuit of Silverstone.

After yesterday’s rain, the track conditions for the warm up were tricky, with quite a few wet patches around the British layout: Rodrigo faced the first session of the day with caution. In the race, the young Argentinian scored a superb start, setting off from the 14th spot up to the fifth position just on the first lap. Gabriel fought within the leading group lap after lap, showing a strong pace and putting in his best effort. When the tyres started to wear off, Rodrigo didn’t manage to keep attacking and he couldn’t cross the finishing line within the top-10. However, Gabriel leaves England with a strong twelfth placement and 4 points for the Championship Standings.

In the warm up, the mixed conditions of the track limited Guevara’s chances when it came to finalising some checks on the KTM setting. Despite that, the Spaniard started from the tenth row on the grid ready to come back: the first few laps were the key to overtake as many riders as possible, which got him close to the points: eventually Juanfran finished the race in 17th position.

#19 Gabriel Rodrigo: 12th

“Even if the grid placement wasn’t one of the best ever, it was a decent compromise to try and make a good race. The pace we had wasn’t bad at all, but during the weekend we didn’t really put in many laps. We didn’t know what would happen in the last part of the race, especially as far as it concerns the durability of the tyres. I started off well and on the first few laps I was feeling strong. I got to lead the race and till the tenth lap everything was under control. I had my own strategy for the last part of the race and I knew that I could fight to be in the top-5, maybe we could have actually got to the podium. With seven laps to go, the tyre was beginning to be pretty much worn off and I couldn’t control the performance of the bike in a better way. I tried to stay in the group, but I wasn’t feeling confident enough to keep overtaking and to push more. It’s a shame because we could have achieved a great result, but generally speaking it was a positive race. We showed that we are strong and aggressive when fighting in the group. This is my best result in the World Championship so far, and I’m happy for that. It was important to finish, since in previous occasions, when I was in the leading group, it all ended up with a crash. We’re keeping the good bits and now we go to Misano, where we’ll try to push a bit more to get to the front group once again and to score a good result.”

#58 Juanfran Guevara: 17th

”It was quite a peculiar day. We started the warm up in mixed conditions, the track was half wet and half dry. We got out on track ready to put in our best effort and I think that in the end this wasn’t such a bad race. Since we were in the back of the grid, it was difficult to come back so many positions on this track: we moved up 11 places and that is quite decent here at Silverstone. We set one of the best laps of the race and our pace was alright. We keep the positive side of this weekend. We were fast on the dry, but we must be more consistent lap after lap. We need to be stronger since Friday, in order not to leave anything behind. We’re headed to Misano and we look forwards to working there with a new perspective, thanks to all we’ve learnt. I believe in my team, I think we can fight to be in the front.”

Navarro fightback at Silverstone ends with crash

Repsol rider sees chances of victory dashed two laps from the end, after contact with another rider. Aron Canet places ninth at British GP.

A solid comeback by Jorge Navarro on raceday at Silverstone circuit did not have a happy ending for the Repsol rider, as he crashed out in the closing stages of the British GP. The Spaniard –second in the Moto3 World Championship– had started from eighteenth on the grid, but managed to gain positions and break away with the leading group. Navarro would even lead the race for various laps, but his day came to an early end when he was hit by another rider. He was thus unable to complete the race, with just two laps remaining before the chequered flag. Teammate Aron Canet lost positions on the early laps, but managed to recover and cross the finish line in ninth. The young rookie rounded off his week positively, gaining experience and adding points to his tally.

The next Moto3 round will be the San Marino Grand Prix at Misano, on September 9th, 10th and 11th.

Jorge Navarro No Classified

"I am fine after the crash. I just have the normal fatigue that you have after the race and after a fall. It was a shame not to finish; I was able to make a comeback despite the difficult conditions, and when I arrived at the front I did not have the feeling to push ahead and escape. We had to fight within a group that had a low pace due to the slipstreams, and in which there were riders who are not usually in those positions –they took risks for which we ended up paying the price. Now we have to keep working hard, fight race by race to win again and try to get back closer to Binder."

"It was a great race for me, because after a dip at recent races I was able to put into practice what I had learned from other experiences, such as Austria. On the opening laps I was passed by several riders, but I could study them and overtake as I gained confidence. I felt that I could regain the level I was at before Assen. I pushed to the maximum to reach the leading group and take a good result. I was fighting to gain positions and in the end we finished ninth –a result with which I am very happy."

Morbidelli finishes superb second in Silverstone thriller

Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS rider Franco Morbidelli finished a superb second in a thrilling Moto2 World Championship race at Silverstone today.

This was Morbidelli's third podium of the season and equalled his previous best result, second place in the Austrian Grand Prix just two races ago.

It was a dynamic comeback to Silverstone for Morbidelli who missed this race last year and had some issues during practice finding the ideal set-up for the fast and flowing 5.9km Silverstone circuit.

In the opening laps of the British Grand Prix Morbidelli raced in tandem with his teammate Álex Márquez with the pair in the early battle for third and fourth positions.

When Márquez lost the front-end and crashed out of third place at turn 16 on lap five it was left to Morbidelli to continue his breathtaking podium change.

Morbidelli's end of race battle with Takaaki Nakagami and Hafizh Syahrin was a tense affair with Morbidelli making a slick overtake on Nakagami to secure second place on the final lap of the 18-lap race won by Tom Lüthi.

Morbidelli was just 0.8s behind Lüthi at the finish and is now sixth in the Moto2 World Championship with 114 points.

Franco Morbidelli: 2nd

"I am really happy for this podium, it comes after a difficult weekend. I really struggled in practice because I missed this race last year and had to try and understand the circuit again. I had a very big fight for the podium, I really enjoyed the battle with Nakagami and towards the end I tried to break clear and catch Tom Lüthi but he had too big a gap. This podium is all thanks to my team who did a great job this weekend."

Álex Márquez: 25th

"The crash was my mistake, totally my fault and it is a pity because I was feeling good and in a position to fight for the podium. We tried one thing for the race that was not ideal but this is not an excuse because the rest of the weekend was so positive and competitive. I know why I crashed and this is important now as we head to the next race in Misano."

Michael Bartholemy: Team Principal

"This is great result by Franco and I'm happy for this second place and again we saw the fighting spirit of Franco Morbidelli, he rode a brilliant race. At the end Tom Lüthi was just too far ahead for Franco to catch him. It was shame that Álex went out of the race early because it had been an impressive weekend for him, he was fast in both wet and dry conditions so we need to see this pace from him at the next race in Misano."


The Gresini Racing Team Moto3 collected another great result in today’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone, placing both the Honda NSF250RW machines of Fabio Di Giannantonio and Enea Bastianini in the top ten for the fourth consecutive race both

In a race that was incredibly hard fought, Fabio Di Giannantonio crossed the finsh line in sixth position at the end of a fantastic comeback from the 25th position on the grid: the 17-year-old rookie from Rome gained immediately eight places thanks to a good start, then he pushed hard to recover, reaching the leading group during the seventh lap. After being slowed by the crash of Jorge Navarro and Andrea Migno occurred right in front of him, in the final stages ‘Diggia’ battled with Stefano Manzi, passing sixth under the checkered flag. With this result Di Giannantonio is now seventh in the Championship with 92 points.

His team mate Enea Bastianini instead crossed the finish line close behind in eighth place: also the 18-year-old rider from Rimini showed the speed to fight for the podium, also taking the lead with just four laps to go, but then Enea, slowed by some issues at turn 7, was not able to emerge in the final sprint.


“I’m very happy, it was a fantastic race and it’s a great feeling to finish sixth starting from the 25th position! At the beginning of the race I immediately recovered several positions thanks to a perfect start, then I was able to take the lead of the second group in order to try to close the gap to the leaders. Since I reached the leading group, we had an ardently battle till the end, so much that I have my leathers marked in several areas! In the end I did my best to try to get on the podium, but the fight was very close and when Manzi made Navarro crash in front of me, the first three were able to open a little gap. At that point I still didn’t lose heart and I continued to push hard, but in the end the podium was not possible. However that’s okay, now we look forward to Misano!”.


“We knew it would have been a difficult race because during weekend I’ve been struggling a bit in windy conditions, but today we were competitive and so I’m a little disappointed and angry because some riders made strong maneuvers during the race, therefore it was not easy to be able to stay in the top positions. In the final laps, then, I had some issues at Turn 7, where I couldn’t brake hard and to keep the line; I think that this problem actually prevented us from fighting for the podium”.


“It was a hard fought race, as always, marked by strong battles in the closing laps: we undoubtedly could get something more today with both our riders, but these are the races. We are still happy because once again we have proven to be extremely competitive with both riders. Unfortunately the fight in the final lap definitely didn’t help us ahead of the final sprint and consequently we missed a podium finish, but that's okay: Enea made a great race, remaining in the top positions and also taking the lead trying to open a gap, while Di Giannantonio rode very well to recover from the 25th position on the grid, then unfortunately the final battle, especially with Manzi, stopped him, but that’s okay. As already said, these are the races”.

Determined Vierge closes Silverstone weekend in the points

Tech3 Racing Team rider Xavi Vierge produced a solid performance today as he concluded the 12th round of the 2016 Moto2 World Championship in 13th aboard the Mistral 610. The 19-year-old commenced the final day of the British GP by ending the warm up in 5th which left him highly motivated for the 18 lap race. He began from the middle of the sixth row of the grid and leapt into action when the sprint started, before completing the opening lap in 11th. He then quickly set into a formidable rhythm as he remained with the leading pack up until the mid-point. Vierge carried on but a lack of rear grip caused him to slip back, yet he stayed focused and adapted his riding style in order to try and move back up. The 2015 CEV title runner-up continued to push before eventually speeding across the finish line in 13th. The result closes the weekend positively for the Spanish rider who has recently resigned with the Tech3 Racing Team for the 2017 season.

Meanwhile, Isaac Viñales suffered with bad luck at the Octo British Grand Prix as he fell on the first lap whilst running in 5th position. After an encouraging day in qualifying yesterday, where he clinched a 7th place start for today’s GP, Viñales began the day strongly by setting the second quickest time in the mixed conditions in the morning warm up. In the main event, when the lights went out, the Spaniard bolted forward and ran with the leading group. However, he crashed shortly afterwards, which marks an unfortunate end to an otherwise positive weekend. Nevertheless, the Spaniard will seek to bounce back at the San Marino GP.

Xavi Vierge

Position: 13th - Championship: 25th - Points: 10

“After today’s result, I can leave the United Kingdom feeling positive and more than satisfied about what we achieved. The weather was not ideal at this event but in every wet session the team and I progressed and I stayed in the top 15 in all of the practices, aside from the qualifying. With regards to the race itself, I am very pleased with my performance. For the first few laps, I stayed with the top group but after a third of the entire distance, the rear tyre grip level dropped and it took me a bit of time to figure out what to do about the lack of grip. However, I adapted my style which allowed me to pick up the pace and I eventually finished in 13th. This is a good result for a dry GP and I am happy for myself and also the team. The guys have worked so hard at every round and whenever they made a step forward with the bike, I have done also. Now, we can go to Misano full of motivation and I am excited about getting back on the track."

Isaac Viñales

Position: DNF - Championship: 23th - Points: 12

“It’s a big shame that I couldn’t complete the British GP, but these things sometimes happen so we will learn and come back stronger next time. I was riding in 5th and fighting at the front of the field before I fell. I am not injured but it still marks a disappointing end to what was a very positive weekend where I qualified in 7th and ended the warm up in 2nd. Anyway, I hope that we can continue this good momentum at the next round, which is only a few days away. I am feeling confident for Misano and I am determined to finish well there."

Hervé Poncharal - Team Manager:

“It was a tough weekend here in Silverstone because the weather didn’t help the riders at all and that made it even more challenging but I am very proud about what we achieved. Isaac did a super job in qualifying and he missed the front row by almost nothing. At the beginning of the race, he was very determined and maybe a bit too hot on the opening lap. He undertook an impressive start but unfortunately it was a bit too much and he fell. This was a shame because there was a chance of a top result for Isaac, yet he wanted to show himself and I think everybody noticed him and also that the bike is strong. On the other side of the garage, I am extremely happy with Xavi Vierge who was very wise in the race. He was not so lucky in the qualifying, however, he got off the line well, as usual, and kept on pushing. He was fighting with some good riders and never gave up. When the tyres started to slide, he had to adapt his style, which is something very important that he has learnt. He finished only 16 seconds from the winner, which is less than a second a lap when considering the entire distance. I definitely think that Xavi is improving a lot but this was the plan because now he knows the tracks on the calendar from Brno onwards after joining us at the midpoint last year. I am pleased with what he is doing and I am sure that Misano will be rewarding. Thanks to everyone in the Tech3 Moto2 team, it’s a pity for Isaac but he showed great promise and I must give a big thank you to Xavi again. I am so happy to have signed him for 2017 because next year he will be competitive and he will help us to get closer to our target, which is the top five. I would like to add a very special thanks to KYB for their incredible support. They never give up and we certainly have the best product in the suspension department in the Moto2 grid.”

Top 10 for Joan Mir in UK

Mir and Locatelli crossed the finish line with a tenth and 15th place finish; Quartararo retired.

Sunday morning at the OCTO British Grand Prix in 2016 opened with some cloud on the horizon and very low temperatures after rain. Winds soon swept away the clouds for Warm Up allowing the young riders of Moto3 class to run in the dry. The lights went out at 12:30 Local Time and Joan Mir and Andrea Locatelli both got flying starts.

The rookie of Palma de Mallorca, started from the second row, set off in the wake of poleman Bagnaia, while the pilot of Selvino entered the top ten by force in eighth. It was tough for Fabio Quartararo in the rear, unable to make up much ground.

Soon after Locatelli, was sucked back into the chasing group after contact with another rider, just as Joan Mir was fighting for top positions and record setting the fastest lap. Two laps later, when circulating in the 25th position, Fabio Quartararo was forced to retire due to a technical problem.

At that moment, Joan Mir got his rhythm, made himself noticed in the metaphorical mirrors of Navarro and Binder in the lead, with 10 riders within a second. The fight was close and the Spaniard battled hard with the likes of Bastianini and Bendsneyder, cutting his way through any narrow space that emerged around the Silverstone Circuit. Andrea Locatelli gritted his teeth and returned to the threshold of the points.

On the penultimate lap Navarro and Migno crashed at Turn 9 and Joan Mir took advantage of the confusion to enter the Top 10. The rookie resisted the attacks and ended in tenth place overall; moments after his team-mate Andrea Locatelli gave the Leopard Racing team another world championship point, passing Kornfeil right at the flag.

The circus of the World Championship knows no limit and will be back on track in exactly seven days for the Grand Prix of San Marino and Riviera di Rimini at Misano World Circuit "Marco Simoncelli".

#36 Joan MIR - 10th

"Too bad for what happened! I was struggling in the front group but we suffered a problem with the gear ratios: too short with the heavy wind. I could not fight like I wanted to and I was limited just on the straight. I want to thank the team for the changes made on the frame with which I felt comfortable."

#55 Andrea LOCATELLI - 15th

"I started very well and I was with the leading group. Then I heard a contact from behind and went off the track and lost a lot of positions. Kent in the points at his home GP

The Englishman is able to snatch a championship point in front of his fans, Miguel Oliveira retired after the first half.

At 14:00 o'clock today, the lights of the Silverstone circuit went off to begin the OCTO British Grand Prix, the twelfth round of the season 2016 of the Moto2 class. Danny Kent appeared in front of his fans who came from every part of England to support their champion.

At the start the two riders of the Leopard Racing team were able to defend their positions, fighting in the second group of the race, with 10 riders in a bunch. While Kent remained stuck in traffic and losing ground, his teammate Miguel Oliveira climbed the rankings putting Vierge and Pasini behind him.

Halfway through the race, unfortunately, at a decisive moment, the Portuguese rider was forced to pit, retiring straight away. Danny Kent was meanwhile engaged in a duel with Simon and Cortese for the last place in the points. Contact at the front between Zarco and Lowes, cost the French rider a 30 second penalty: thus Danny Kent, who had crossed the line in 16th place, was able to climb a position and in fact get in the points.

The duo of Leopard Racing team can rebuild quickly, in seven days: this weekend, the Misano World Circuit "Marco Simoncelli will stage the 13th round of the season with the Grand Prix of San Marino and Riviera di Rimini.

#52 Danny KENT - 15th:

"This is not the way we wanted to finish our home GP. Of course we wanted a good result but it has been a typical English weekend with the weather. It didn't help us, especially in practice with only five laps at the start. We needed more track time. We were losing a lot on acceleration and then top speed so it made the job harder. Points after the problem with Zarco. Just need to work hard for Misano".

#44 Miguel OLIVEIRA - nc:

"A difficult weekend for us. We did not run very long in the dry and had little time to figure out where to intervene on the set up. Then in the race, especially for the difficult track conditions, the bike could not get any drive. I want to thank the effort of the whole team, especially after yesterday's falls".

Gardner Grabs British GP Top 20 And Unveils 2017 Plans

Today's Moto2 British GP may not have resulted in additional championship points being added to his 2016 tally but nevertheless it was a productive weekend with Remy Gardner unveiled as a Tech3 Racing Team rider the 2017 World Championship season.

Qualifying 21st after a mixed qualifying session saw the Aussie teen crash while on a personal improving lap in damp conditions, Remy was optimistic of another strong race aboard the Tasca Scuderia GP Kalex and after an impressive start the #87 well inside the top twenty in the early stages. A mid race issue saw him finish 20th at the flag after a race long fight at the iconic Silverstone circuit.

As the Moto2 World Championship circus packs up and heads to Misano in Italy for next weekend's race Remy has little time to reflect on what might have been but is confident of a strong end to the 2016 season aboard his current steed before he swaps camps for a new challenge alongside Xavi Vierge in 2017.

The official announcement concerning Remy's 2017 deal was made shortly after this morning's warm-up session and whilst focused on the job at hand he was understandably excited at the opportunity and the possibilities that await next year.

Remy Gardner - 20th in the British GP: "20th in the race was not what we were looking for but that's racing and I can take a lot of positives from the weekend, especially the pace we found in the wet. We don't have long to wait till I get to ride again and I am looking forward to giving it my all for Tasca Scuderia for the remaining races. Looking ahead to next year I am really excited to announce that I have signed with Hervé and the Tech3 Racing Team. The Mistral 610 is different compared to what most other guys are riding in Moto2 but everyone is looking for that extra edge now. When I watch the bike out on the track, I can see that it has very good potential so I’m delighted to have signed and I can’t wait for next season and to start the progress of developing the project further. From an outsiders perspective, it looks like the team is very structured and in all honesty, I couldn’t be any happier about joining Tech3.”


The Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 leaves Silverstone with a bitter taste in the mouth after dominating almost all the British Grand Prix weekend with Sam Lowes: in today’s race the 25-year-old British rider, started from pole, could not avoid the crash after a contact caused by Johann Zarco with just three laps to go, just after Sam passed the French rider and was catching race leader Thomas Luthi.

Immediately after having been overtaken by Lowes, Zarco was right back inside of Sam with an unfair move, touching and forcing the English rider to go off the track and crash. Zarco’s maneuver, considered irresponsible riding by the Race Direction, who sanctioned the French rider with 30 seconds on his final race time, effectively put an end to Sam's race, who still managed to rejoin the race, crossing the finish line in 21st position.

SAM LOWES (21st)

“I had some problems early in the race, but then later it was easy for me to recover: in the final stages I was feeling really comfortable so, with three laps to go, I passed Zarco and I was already thinking about catching Luthi, because I felt to have something in the pocket. Then Zarco made a move on the inside, pushing me off track with a stupid maneuver. Zarco made something wrong, and I think he made it on purpose, so he deserved to be penalized, but at this point I don’t care about it: apart from the Championship, today was a special day for me and I wanted to win, but for this it was not possible. I worked hard during all the weekend and I was fast on both dry and wet, then in the race I was in a good position to win. I really wanted to get the win in my home race, and it’s a difficult to accept this situation, because I didn’t make any mistake. I’m very sorry for the team because they did a great job. Now the only answer we can give is to return in Misano even stronger”.


“Today, unfortunately, we missed a great opportunity: we knew we could pick up a great result, to close the gap in the championship, but the incident with Zarco stopped us. Johann was penalized, but I still remain disappointed because as a result of this episode not only we have we lost a great opportunity, but we also lost more ground in the standings. I am very disappointed”.

Baldassarri a whisker away from the Top5, Marini forced to retire

After a rainy week, the riders of the Forward Racing Team have just concluded the British Grand Prix on an almost completely dry asphalt.

Positive performance of Lorenzo Baldassarri who, after starting from the third row, has proved once again to be very aggressive on the legendary British circuit.

After a good start "Balda" had to fight his way back to rejoin the leading group. Despite the initial traffic, where he made contact with another rider, Lorenzo kept his concentration on and gradually re-gained positions and finished the race in sixth place.

The Italian closes the weekend now in eleventh place in the overall standings of the Championship.

Luca Marini was the author of an excellent start, leaving from the sixth row and getting back in the points immediately. The rider from Tavullia fought to get as close as possible to the Top10 but while he was firmly in the Top15 he had to withdraw due to a technical problem with his Kalex 2016.

Throughout the whole weekend, the Forward Racing Team supported the fundraising activities of the Italian Red Cross to fund the operations of aid the people of Central Italy hit by the earthquake of August 24th.

Lorenzo Baldassarri – 6th

"I'm happy with my performance, this is what we aimed for during the weekend! In free practice, the weather conditions were always difficult so we didn't really know what to expect for the race but finally I could give my 100% on the dry track. In the first corners, I made contact with another rider and I dropped some position but I pushed a lot to fill the gap and to come back in the leading group. Now we are heading to another home GP, I cannot wait to get on track in front."

"One more good achievement for us today at Silverstone: "Balda" took the 6th position and showed again how he can be fast and aggressive. Luca unfortunately couldn't make it to the chequered flag because of some technical issues on the last lap while he was fighting for points. It's a pity cause he is improving race by race. We are looking forward for the upcoming weekend in Misano, it's our "home GP" and we are very much aiming for some good results to share with our fans and sponsor.”

Tough British GP for Johann Zarco

Ajo Motorsport hit with 30-second penalty, invalidating his sixth position at the British GP.

09/04/2016 - Silverstone Circuit, Great Britain

A weekend in which Johann Zarco had been fast in all conditions ended with scant reward for the Frenchman, as he was unable to place on the podium at Silverstone. Hit with a 30-second penalty after contact with another rider –which itself had meant that he could only cross the line in sixth– the Ajo Motorsport rider was relegated to twenty-second place and left the British GP empty-handed.

Zarco made a good start to the race, contested on a completely dry track under threatening clouds. The Ajo Motorsport man had showed good pace in practice, and carried this into the race by sitting behind the leader. With only three laps remaining, and following a pass by Sam Lowes, the reigning World Champion fought to return the overtaking move –the two colliding and running off track. Despite taking the chequered flag in sixth, the sanction from Race Direction dropped him down the order considerably.

After 12 races, Johann Zarco remains Moto2 World Championship leader with 181 points, 10 ahead of his nearest rival. The next round of the season will take place next weekend, at Misano.

Aki Ajo - Team Manager

"First of all, it should be noted that this weekend has been difficult for the Moto2 class, because the weather has not been favourable. Today we started very well, Johann [Zarco] was strong and having a good race, but unfortunately with a few laps remaining there was a racing incident between Sam Lowes and Johann; unfortunately Sam fell and Johann lost several positions; but this happens in racing and you have to take risks -especially at the end when three riders are fighting to win a race.

Johann was handed a ride through penalty. In this case, in my opinion, the penalty was quite harsh, considering it was just a racing incident which, again in my opinion, was caused by both riders. We have to move on and focus on Misano now, where we will defend the series lead."


"It's difficult to explain what happened. In the race I set a good pace and I felt good, but not enough to feel that I could take the lead. Three laps from the end, Sam Lowes overtook me. As I didn't want to lose touch with Luthi, I attempted to get past Sam again. I tried, but the front brake protector broke in our initial contact and the lever lifted up, impeding me from braking hard and meaning I had to go straight on. I lost time because of the incident, although I thought to myself that 6th place and 10 points was damage limitation. In the end, I received a penalty; we must accept it and stay focused so as to not make any mistakes at the next race, as I need to get a win and score more points for the World Championship."

Tough Experience for Honda Team Asia in Silverstone

Honda Team Asia rider Hiroki Ono finished twentieth place in the British GP today, while his team mate Khairul Idham Pawi had a checkered flag for twenty-third place.

As the weather forecast predicted, the race day was free from rain, although the track surface in the morning warm up was still damp in many area. Honda Team Asia riders wisely spend this session to inspect the tricky conditions.

When the race began at 1230, the Japanese rider who had started from nineteenth on the grid did fierce battle with his rivals, however, rear brake issue emerged in the second part of the race, which made him to change strategy to finish the race.

In the meantime, the Malaysian rookie could not push as hard as he had expected because he did not have enough confidence with front. Nevertheless, he had checkered flag for twenty-third place and gained more experience in Moto3 world championship.

Hiroki Ono (20th)

“I did not make a good start and failed to follow the group in front of me, which made me struggle the whole race today. In the second part of the race, I had rear brake issue and had to control the bike only with front brake, so I changed my strategy to finish the race. I hope we will have a better weekend for the next race in Misano.”

Khairul Idham Pawi (23rd)

“Since yesterday, I didn’t have a confidence with the front and I was not able to push hard. I am disappointed because I started from sixteenth on the grid and finished in twenty third place. Anyway, I gained experience today and we will make good use of it for the future.”

IDEMTSU Honda Team Asia rider Takaaki Nakagami made another fantastic race again here in Silverstone circuit and crossed the line in third place. As he said yesterday that he would make a good race if the race was dry, he demonstrated his competitiveness in eighteen laps’ race.

The Japanese rider who have started the race from eleventh on the grid improved his position lap by lap with great composure. In the final stages, he did fierce and clean battle with Franco Morbielli who finally had checkered flag just 0.321s in front of Nakagami.

In the meantime, another IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia man Ratthapark Wilairot finished in eighteenth place. The Thai rider started from the back of the grid, and followed the group in front of him. In the end he was riding alone and just missed only three place for the championship points.

Takaaki Nakagami (3rd)

“From the beginning, I tried all my best to overtake guys in front of me but not to have pushed too hard. In he final stages we made a good battle with Franco, which I enjoyed a lot. I tried to overtake him again but he closed the door. Great compliments to him and to the race winner Thomas, I am glad to be back on the podium. it is very good feeling because after summer break I had to struggle in Red Bull Ring and Brno. My team did fantastic job. I would like to thank them and all the people who always support us.”

Ratthapark Wilairot (18th)

“Thanks for the team who worked very hard, I was able to get a good feeling and concentrated in the race. The harder I pushed, the more I improved my lap time. If I have started from better grid position, I could've gotten some championship points. We keep trying harder for the next race in Misano.”

“Albeit starting from lower grid positions, both of our riders did very good job today. Nakagami demonstrated his competitiveness in the race and took third podium, which is good. We will try harder to get better results and more victories. Ratthapark set very fast lap time, almost as same as Taka in the final stages. He will be motivated with good concentration for the next race weekend in Misano.”


Scottish rider John McPhee rode a brave race today but was stuck in big group whilst team mate Albert Arenas had to retire already at the start due to electronical issues.

Teams and riders were greeted by typical drizzle for England this early morning before the weather situation improved significantly. However, the track’s conditions were mostly wet during warm up but this didn’t slow Spanish youngster Albert Arenas who still struggles with a broken collarbone. However, Arenas concluded the ultimate preparation for the race as astonishing sixth fastest. Before he underwent again treatment on his injured shoulder so understandably he felt very ready for the race at lunch time even it’s a more demanding one for him.

However, Arenas suffered electronical issues on the grid with some moments before to start the engine. The 19-year-old from Girona and his crew had to leave the grid and tried and did their best to start from pit lane but all efforts were useless as the bike didn’t move either due to a broken cable.

Meanwhile, John McPhee left the line in a solid way but was early stuck in the first group following the leading group in which were up to 15 riders fighting for victory today. Anyway, McPhee tried all race distance long to break away from his competitors in order to catch the last points scoring positions, but due to lack in front feeling he wasn’t able to push harder. McPhee crossed the line in 17th position finally.

This busy stage of the championship continues with the next race in just seven days at the Italian circuit in Misano.

#12 Albert ARENAS – DNF 1st lap:

“I worked as hard as possible on my shoulder this morning again and I really felt comfortable for the race particularly after warm up went so well for us. I finished in sixth position. I felt so well with the bike as we found some small improvements. But we had to start from the rear which doesn’t bother me too much because at a long track with fast and flowing sectors like this, it’s easy to recover positions. But we endured a problem on the grid as the bike didn’t start. We tried everything even in the pit lane but every time the engine stopped immediately. So it wasn’t possible to start the race. We must check-off this race day quickly and set our focus to Misano already. Meanwhile I will take a short rest and prepare for the next race in just a couple of days. Given to the circumstances, this weekend went pretty well so I’m looking forward to be back in a better shape in Misano.”

#17 John McPHEE – 18th (World Championship position 17th, 45 points):

“Well, I’m disappointed for sure because I felt there is much more potential for the race. But after starting from 17th position on the grid it was difficult for me to move forward. The front feeling wasn’t so good and already during the early stages of the race I had big moments where I almost crashed sometimes. It took a while to lap with a decent pace and in the end I felt really strong but I was fighting in a big group and it wasn’t possible to break away. So we learned our lessons from this as we had an up and down weekend here in Silverstone. But most important we had some really strong sessions too what we’ll take over to Misano next week.”

Terrell THIEN (Team manager):

“After our win in Brno last time we came in great shape to Silverstone but we knew that it will be a hard weekend for us and it would be difficult to achieve a similar outcome like in the Czech Republic anyway. Also the changeable weather conditions didn’t help. We’re really sorry for Albert that he couldn’t race today. It’s a pity that a broken cable forced him to retire before the race got underway actually. But given to the circumstances he showed determination and fighting spirit all weekend long. On the other side we’re a bit disappointed because we expected more to come from John after he finished sixth fastest in yesterday’s FP3 under dry conditions. But we have to admit at this point that he felt a lot of pressure in his home race, particularly as he arrived with his first victory under his belt from Brno. We already set our focus to the Misano race next weekend where the track’s layout should suit a bit better to our package.”

Moto3 - Difficult race for the riders of 3570 Team Italia

Lorenzo Petrarca is 29th at Silverstone, Stefano Valtulini is out in the last laps.

British round with no luck for 3570 Team Italia. At Silverstone the twelfth round of the 2016 Moto3 World Championship awards once again the leader of the championship Brad Binder (KTM), while Lorenzo Petrarca finishes 29th and Stefano Valtulini crashes almost at the end of the race, due to a contact with another rider.

After starting from behind, the two riders of 3570 Team Italia tried to recover as many positions as possible during the whole race. Battling with the group of riders, Stefano Valtulini was out at three laps to go at Turn 9, due to a contact caused by another rider and he was unable to start again.

Twenty-ninth final place for Lorenzo Petrarca, determined to improve at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, home race for 3570 Team Italia.
