Press Release: Ducati Announced As Official Motorcycle Supplier For MotoE from 2023

Today, Dorna and Ducati announced that Ducati is to take over from Energica as the official manufacturer supplying bikes for the MotoE championship. More to come on this later, but here is the press release on the announcement:

Dorna Sports and Ducati are delighted to announce a new partnership, with the legendary Italian motorcycle marque set to become the single manufacturer for a new era of the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup from 2023 to 2026. The announcement was made in a special Press Conference on Thursday at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli ahead of the Gran Premio Nolan del Made in Italy e dell’Emilia Romagna, with Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta joining Ducati Motor Holding CEO Claudio Domenicali to reveal the new project.

The new era of MotoE™ is a historic one for the Borgo Panigale factory as Ducati enters the world of electric racing, taking on a new challenge and preparing to write another incredible chapter in a decorated history of competition. As with their MotoGP™ and WorldSBK projects, this new adventure in MotoE™ will prove the perfect laboratory to take technology and innovation from the track to the showroom.

The machine for the new era of MotoE™ will be purpose built from the principles of Ducati’s racing DNA, with focus on creating a lightweight motorcycle that unites tradition, passion and innovation for a new era of electric competition in the MotoGP™ paddock.

Kenny Noyes onced called honda the nasa of motorcycle racing.  they have previous experience through mugen. what the hell, honda?

How many SpaceX launches did it take before NASA even entertained a SpaceX crew flight? Honda is just as conservative, but when they launch it will be bullet proof. I expect Ducati's entries to be amazing but also have many very visible iterations.

Exciting times to be sure.

Having grown frustrated with only a single title in two decades, Ducati have taken extreme measure to Ensure a Ducati wins a championship.

More seriously, big move for Ducati and a clear statement they intend to become a big name in E-motos. Perhaps some of Audi's now freed up Formula E budget and expertise has been commited to this project.

The day Desmo died.

I knew Ducati had been involved in at least one electric race bike project. Didn't expect this. Wednesday's news that Energica was "to withdraw as official manufacturer motorcycles for the MotoE class at the end of the 2022 season" had me wondering. 

Of all the manufacturers I didn't even think of Ducati. MotoE cup, that means production bikes, am I right?

In 12 months time Ducati could have electric bikes to test. So let's wait and see.

Do Termignoni make speakers? Loudspeakers!

I'm a big fan of Ducati and impressed that they are entering MotoE but IMHO having 1/3 of the field in MotoGP on Ducatis is overkill. To keep it interesting Dorma should have been prepared to share more $$$'s to get satellite teams behind Suzuki and Aprilia.

Well at least we know that Moto-E will have exotic race DNA in 2023. Ducati are the perfect brand to move the category forward and I can't wait to see the bike that they come up with.

Considering Ducati have the most packaging and weight issues of the MotoGP bikes one the grid that they are the ones taking on the biggest current packaging and weight challenge in motorcycle design, electric sport bikes.  Can't fault them for lack of confidence at least. :)
