2023 Portimão MotoGP Free Practice Result: Bezzecchi Robs Quartararo

By Zara Daniela | Sat, 25/03/2023 - 10:52

The premier class took to the track for this brand new exhibition session and Fabio Quartararo did show off to begin with, making a fast start at the top of the timesheets until the Ducatis woke up. Marco Bezzecchi jumped ahead barely 10 minutes into the session and kept top spot until the chequered flag, with Quartararo demoted to second but also setting a good pace. Aleix Espargaro progressed to third throughout the session, ahead of Pecco Bagnaia, whose session ended with a fast tumble at turn one. Miguel Oliveira, Alex Marquez and Maverick Viñales were all less than three tenths slower than the leader, with Jorge Martin another tenth back.

Joan Mir was the lead Honda in ninth position, while Enea Bastianini rounded out the top 10 despite sliding off at turn five and ending his session seven minutes early. Meanwhile, Luca Marini also shortened his free practice time after starting the day with a light crash while juggling traffic on his outlap. The Italian eventually rejoined and climbed into 15th, just ahead of Marc Marquez, the Spaniard stuck in struggle town down in 16th.
