2023 Jerez Moto3 Practice 3 Result: Öncü Keeps Control

By Zara Daniela | Sat, 29/04/2023 - 07:24

Saturday in Jerez got underway in more tolerable temperatures and it showed on the timesheets, with a brand new top 14 by the end of the 30-minute final practice session. One variable that did not change was Deniz Öncü at the top of the standings, the Turkish rider leading the way on Friday and putting in an impressive lap late in P3 to reclaim top spot by a sizeable advantage. Despite an early tumble at turn 1, David Alonso eventually reduced the leader’s gap to only a tenth of a second, while three tenths ahead of rookie Jose Antonio Rueda and six tenths quicker than teammate Ryusei Yamanaka.

After very briefly leading the way in the closing stages of the session, Jauma Masia dropped to fifth and it was a similar story for Xavi Artigas in sixth position. Andrea Migno continues to impress on his temporary return to the lightweight class, this time with seventh place, ahead of David Muñoz and a convalescent Joel Kelso. Ayumu Sasaki rounded out the top 10 positions, albeit over eight tenths of a second slower than the leader.

Kaito Toba made a late jump up the timesheets to claim 11th, ahead of Scott Ogden, while championship leader Dani Holgado was a full second behind top spot. Tatsuki Suzuki was the final man to secure a place directly into Q2, meaning a surprise appearance from Diogo Moreira in Q1 – the Brazilian missing out by only six thousandths of a second.
