The race was red-flagged after 20 laps, after the wind had picked up and air fence had started blowing loose. Initially, the race was scheduled to be rerun over the remaining 8 laps, but after consultation between Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta, IRTA representative Herve Poncharal, and the riders' safety commission, represented by Casey Stoner and Valentino Rossi, it was decided to abandon the race. The 250cc race, which had already been rescheduled to be run after the MotoGP race, was canceled.

Nicky Hayden
I would have loved to have seen Nicky win; he's had such a lousy year and is such a great sportsman. But, well done Valentino.
Agreed. I've got a lot of
Agreed.
I've got a lot of respect for all of the riders for going out and racing hard in those conditions.
Riders of the Storm
You HAD to be there to really understand it. The wife and I were in the podium boxes, four rows from the front, right on the start/finish line. By lap 15 we were fighting to hold our positions on our seats, and I discovered that a Belstaff waxed cotton CAN have water blown up the sleeves through those pitiful little metal underarm vents.
How Nicky and Valentino were holding a razor straight line down the start-finish straight at speed is completely beyond me. Oh yeah, nobody crashed. That's the miracle of the season.
You should have heard the booing when Pedrosa was introduced - and far from just being the section that I was in.
And not having the 250 race was a kindness for all concerned - starting with the riders. Those bikes would have never stood up.
I was there too
I was there too and also live about 20 minutes from the Speedway.
The wind was crazy uprooting trees and demolishing vendor displays, The Yamaha display circus tent was destroyed and blown dozens of yards away injuring two people badly enough to hospitilize them.
The local weather service said there were steady winds of 65 mph with gusts over 80. The rain came down very hard as well.
To watch Hayden, Rossi et al; chasing each other like a pack of beagles after a rabbit was awe inspiring.
