2009 Jerez MotoGP Race Result - Cat And Mouse Race Produces Unsurprising Surprise

By Kropotkin | Sun, 03/05/2009 - 13:00

Result and summary of the Jerez MotoGP Race:

Valentino Rossi got the win he had longed for since the start of the season at Jerez on Sunday, despite starting from the second row. Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner got away from the start, while Rossi got caught up behind team mate Jorge Lorenzo. It took Rossi two laps to get past Lorenzo, and once past him, he chased first Casey Stoner down, and then Dani Pedrosa, finally passing the Spaniard on lap 18. Pedrosa was comfortably 2nd, with a delighted Casey Stoner coming home in 3rd, his first ever podium at Jerez. Stoner was lucky to hold on to 3rd, after Jorge Lorenzo crashed out as he chased the Ducati down.

Honorable mentions go to Randy de Puniet, who rode a mature race to come home 4th, and Marco Melandri, bringing the hopeless Hayate home in 5th. Perhaps it isn't so hopeless after all. Andrea Dovizioso had a very mature race, climbing back up to 8th after running off track and rejoining in 16th.

I am starting to get worried. Nicky in 15th place. This is deja vu (sp?) all over again.

How long is Nicky's contract

How long is Nicky's contract supposed to run for?

Hopeless HAYATE ? Melandri has done well in the last two races. Much better than other favoured riders, such as Toseland.

I think...

I think Nicky is still feeling the effects of the crash from a couple weeks back and then the ridiculous T-bone last weekend. I believe he has a 2 year contract. So he will be back next year. But if next year doesnt work well either, I would expect him to exit to WSBK. I think he could easily pick up a ride there. Even negociate He has track experience on msot of the places WSBK races and is one of only 2 people to beat Mat Mladin in the AMA. The electronics on the WSBK bikes are less intrusive, in some cases can be completely shut off and the 1000cc powerband is much better suited to his riding style. Im really interested to see how WSBK fairs over the next couple years. I find myself more excited to watch the WSBK races over GP races.
