Cold track and air temperatures meant that only Johnny Rea, Maxime Berger, Tom Sykes, Nori Haga and Michel Fabrizio improved their times, with Rea showing the most improvement, leaping to 6th.

I thought, for 2011, only the top 16 from qualifying went to Superpole. Please correct me if I am in error.

You're completely correct. I was having flashbacks to 2010 I think! I've removed the offending sentence. Thanks!
