Davide Giugliano has completed a strong first day at Brno, topping free practice in the morning and then following it up with a provisional pole during the first session of qualifying in the afternoon. The Althea Ducati rider took an early lead, ceding it to BMW's Marco Melandri at the halfway mark, before taking it back with 15 minutes to go despite the rain which had spotted the track throughout. Melandri was demoted to 2nd - just, but less than a tenth of a second - finishing ahead of Eugene Laverty on the factory Aprilia and Tom Sykes on the Kawasaki.
Carlos Checa headed up a pair of Ducatis, putting the second Althea bike into 5th, ahead of Jakub Smrz, while Ayrton Badovini lead teammate Michel Fabrizio, the BMW Italia men taking 7th and 8th.

ONE SECOND 1st to 12th
Makes MotoGP look weak don't it?
Not really. You're taking it
Not really. You're taking it with the context of this one session. Look at Aragon where the difference between 1st and 15th in both races was over 49 seconds.

And no. I don't see how when
And no. I don't see how when there have been many rounds this season where the too ten pilots have been covered by less than a second. Sometimes far less. As far as the racing goes. Biaggi/Melandri battles this year have been stoner/Lorenzo or stoner/pedrosa in GP.
This is just QP1 anyway.
What's up with Biaggi??
Down in 14th, and a tenth slower than in the morning session??
