With the rain falling before the start of the race, the race was declared wet and the distance was reduced to 17 laps to allow for the extra time to change the bikes to their wet configurations.
As the race started, Sylvain Guintoli made an early charge, followed by Jakub Smrz, a man he very much wanted to beat. The pair of them broke free of the rest and set about racing each other. Smrz could never beat Guintoli though and eventually fell into the clutches of a hard-charging Loris Baz.
After Davide Giugliano crashed out, eleven laps from the end, it was clear the rain was falling harder. A few laps later, Jonathan Rea crashed, followed by Smrz. The lap after, Carlos Checa and Maxime Berger also crashed, the track now dangerous to ride on.
Loris Baz then took to the front, passing Guintoli and, while establishing a lead, he too crashed, followed by an agitated Tom Sykes. The red flag finally made an appearance and the race was declared. Guintoli, Baz and Eugene Laverty took their place in Parc Fermé but after confirming the timing of the red flag, it was rolled back to the beginning of the last completed lap and Smrz was reinstated in 3rd place, and as the race only ran half distance, like at Monza, half points were awarded.
For the third time today, the Marseillese played at Silverstone. The French are doing nothing to tarnish their reputation in the rain.

Good for Guintoli and the
Good for Guintoli and the Pata Team. It is nice to see him give his new team a win after all the shite he has been through.
Guintoli talks "funny"
Listening to him talk, I must say that's the first time I have ever heard a Frenchman with a British accent. I have read from multiple sources that Guintoli is a very funny guy and very popular with some of the press. Good for him, had to feel good to beat the team that stiffed him. And all the others as well!
Baz is a demon, pretty crazy rider, reminds me a of Iannone/Crazy Joe, but crazier.
Those races were the craziest races I have ever seen. What's weird is that no one went down in the 2nd race, then everybody started falling off. Not surprised to see Rea off, that's a regular occurrence. And it was only a matter of time before Gugliano fell, he was way over the edge.
I'm glad no one was hurt.
