2012 Motegi MotoGP FP2 Result: Pedrosa On Record Pace

After ceding top spot to Jorge Lorenzo on Friday morning at Motegi, Dani Pedrosa took back control of the second session of free practice for the MotoGP class, ending the day atop the timesheets and already under lap record pace. Pedrosa deposed Jorge Lorenzo from top spot, the Factory Yamaha man once again fast, but still a tenth slower than the Repsol Honda rider. Andrea Dovozioso continued his strong weekend by taking 3rd, the Monster Tech 3 Yamaha man ending the day under a tenth behind Lorenzo and two tenths behind Pedrosa.

Stefan Bradl grabbed 4th spot, the LCR Honda rookie impressive at a track which suits the Honda, while Valentino Rossi put in a hot lap towards the end of the session to jump up to 5th on the timesheets. Ben Spies took 6th on the second Factory Yamaha, finishing ahead of Casey Stoner, who spent a lot of time in the pits. Stoner was nine tenths behind his Repsol Honda teammate Dani Pedrosa, but that gap is manageable for the Australian's first day back on the bike after missing the last three races with a serious ankle injury.

Basketcase, that is nonsense. Stoner is having to work hard on the bike, due to his less than flexible ankle. Plus there were some technical issues. Honda will want him to be running with Dani, if that is at all possible first time back from such a massive injury.

No doubt that Stoner is giving it his best as always. I was refering to 2 technical issues. Honda will NOT want Stoner on the pace and possibly taking points from Pedrosa. Its obvious. I doubt Stoner will do 'team orders'...

Even if Dani wins all four races there is almost no chance to be Champion. Only chance for Dani to get close is if Stoner is second on the grid. If they want for Stoner to fight with Lorenzo then his bike has to be 100%.

I really can not believe that some people are so obsessed with their conspiracy theory, that they are blind to any logic whatsoever.

Dani has to beat Jorge to win. And he has to beat him alot. If Dani wins the next 4 races and Jorge only takes 3rd it still won't be enough for Dani. Keep in mind Jorge, with the exception of that one race, has never finished lower than 2nd all year.

Lorenzo has earned his points lead and comfortable position he's in.

If Dani wins next 4 races and Lorenzo takes 3rd, this is enough. Between 1st and 3rd place is 9 points. 4x9 is 36. Current lead from Lorenzo is 33 points. But this is unlikley outcome. I believe that Dani is capable to win next 4 races. But I don`t think Lorenzo will be third on all four. But there is a lot of things that can go crazy. Lorenzo engine, DNF, mistakes.... Lorenzo is still in a big lead but... every thing can change. So Dani must win at all cost... the rest is up to everybody else.

Danni is in great form and if he and the bike would have gelled as such earlier in the season then he might have had a real chance even with both him and Jorge's DNF. Danni's only trying to win races and his only hope for the title is if circumstances throw #99 a DNF or backmarker finish. Nothing to plan on but plan to pick up the pieces if anything slips. Stranger things have happened.

25 for win, 16 for 3rd. delta = 9. If Dani wins on out, and George takes 3rd on out, then the cumulative delta = 36. 36 > 33, Dani can win if George takes all 3rds...

that the unexpected can happen in racing. I was watching the final round at Magny-Cours expecting a pretty undramatic finish to the season. With Biaggi's lead, all he'd have to do is finish both races and score a few points. Was I wrong! I came back from getting a snack during race 1 and Biaggi was out of the race and Sykes was in front.

While unlikely, a small mistake by Lorenzo could change things dramatically.

Everything can happen. It is not over yet. Small technical problem (like that of Dani with brakes on the start line) can change a lot of things. If we talk about riders. Lorenzo is not Biaggi. Biaggi makes mistakes all the times. Lorenzo does not. For championship sake I hope he makes one.

While I quickly checked the points I failed to see they were not updated on the site I used. doh!

We do agree Lorenzo is the odds on favorite to take the championship. Actually $8 will only win you $1 with Lorenzo and $2 could win you $13 with Pedrosa. Not even close at the oddsmakers counter. Dani is a very slight favorite to win this one tho. But I doubt that will remain after they check the latest timesheets.

While its always entertaining to see a championship go down to the last turn of the last lap in the last race its just not going to happen this year. And while you're right in stating Lorenzo is not prone to mistakes having to ride like you have to win 4 in a row is.
