2013 Aragon MotoGP Private Test, Day 2: Lorenzo Smashes Pole Record, Pedrosa Rides 2014 RC213V

Jorge Lorenzo has topped the timesheets on the second day of the private test at Aragon, smashing Casey Stoner's pole record at the circuit in the process. Lorenzo lapped the Spanish track nearly four tenths faster than the time set by Stoner in 2011, the factory Yamaha man continuing the work on set up he had tried at Barcelona.

Marc Marquez also got under Casey Stoner's pole record, though only by a fraction. Marquez spent his first full day testing working on his 2013 machine, and did not lap on the 2014 bike. Dani Pedrosa did lap on the 2014 machine, though he only put in 9 laps on the machine. According to MCN's Matthew Birt, who is present at the test, Pedrosa rejected the idea of using the 2014 chassis at Assen, as it was not a clear step forward. Pedrosa did not get under the pole record, but he was lapping faster than the race lap record.

Valentino Rossi ended the day as the 4th fastest man, nine tenths behind his teammate, but the Italian was very happy with the progress he had made. He told MCN's Matt Birt that it had been one of his best since his return to Yamaha, and that he had made a major step forward with the front end, solving the issues he had during braking and corner entry. At Barcelona, Rossi had wanted to test a radically revised set up which they hoped would help solve this problem, but a crash in the afternoon put paid to any chance of testing that at the Montmelo circuit. At Aragon, Rossi would have had time to test this approach once again. Rossi was unconcerned about his time, as the rain started to fall before he had a chance to try to put in a fast lap at the end of the afternoon.

While Suzuki had been fast at Barcelona, Randy de Puniet was over 2.784 seconds back at Aragon. De Puniet was slowed by braking problems, according to the MotoGP.com website, making setting a fast time impossible.

The Yamaha riders and Dani Pedrosa now head home, while Suzuki and Marc Marquez stay on at the track. Marquez will spend time on Thursday riding the 2014 RC213V, to give his impressions of the new bike.

Now that's quite a big choice of words. Rossi has made me curious. I wonder if Burgess has indeed found the solution to Rossis front end problems.
But even if Rossi has found the extra-speed, he has been lacking so far. That still doesn't mean he can get up to speed fast enough on a weekend to be able to get further up in QP. We'll see about that in Assen, I suppose. Can't wait.

The fact that Honda introduces its new RCV with 12 races left to go in the 2013 season leaves me shaking my head really. The amount of manpower and money HRC is throwing at MotoGP is unbelievable.

Honda ways are insane for sure...but then anyone remember when Yamaha took out it's 2005 bike during the 2004 season? Maybe not so early, but it was still very very early...and did they dominate in 2005 or what.

2005 was their 50th anniversary of racing or something, and Yamaha were absolutely determined back then to win in 2005. Looks like Honda is even more determined for 2014...bring it on.
