Alex Rins grabbed his fourth pole position of the season with a best lap of 1’47.392 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday. Rins’ pole came after a long series of laps in the 1’47s and it put him three tenths ahead of teammate Alex Marquez who, in turn, was another tenth ahead of teammate Maverick Vinales.
Following the all-teammate front row were second row starters Efren Vasquez, Jack Miller and Arthur Sissis. Championship leader Luis Salom qualified a distant 10th after a Turn 1 highside during qualifying. Salom was catapulted over his bike and landed heavily on his hip. After crawling off the track, he was taken by stretcher to the clinic but pronounced fit to ride.
He was back out on the track 18 minutes later but could not improve his pre-crash time.
