Marc Marquez shattered the Indianapolis lap record by nearly a full second and claimed his fourth pole position of the year in the process. Marquez, who put in the record lap of 1'37.958 on his sixth of eight QP2 laps, now sits a half second clear of second-place qualifier, Jorge Lorenzo.
Marquez's teammate Dani Pedrosa claimed the final front row position just 14 thousandths of a second slower than Lorenzo. Cal Crutchlow rode to the first slot on the second row with an improving Alvaro Bautista in fifth and a surprisingly quick Nicky Hayden in sixth to the delight of his home fans.
Stefan Bradl, who was among the leaders early on, crashed for the third time during practice and sits in eighth, one position behind Bradley Smith.
And at the end of the third row is a frustrated Valentino Rossi who struggled all day to get within a second of the top riders. Colin Edwards II has his best qulaifying of the year with 12th, good for the fourth row.

Hayden 6th?
There must be an interesting story there. Best of luck to the guy from Kentucky.
replacement for Spies?
Surely Ben should throw in the towel? I'd like Ducati to put Nicky into Pramac or whatever the second ducati team is for next year. If nothing else he'd be an excellent reference from which to judge Dovi & Cal.
he was following Marquez
or should I say trying to. Good on him anyway though at least the duc can do one fast lap. I hope he puts up a good fight for the fans tomorrow.
And Crutchlow once again way faster than Rossi
Yamaha better pray Lorenzo stays fit.
Did anyone...
... see how PERILOUSLY CLOSE Petrucci got to the crash barrier at the end of pit lane? That was UNCOMFORTABLE...
Jeesh!
I rewound it to see if that really happened. What an unsafe pit wall that is.
Colin Edwards The Third???;) That's why he was fastest, got it:D
Yeah, but if on Desmosedici there is a possibility to run that one fast lap (instead of fast full race) Nicky definitely did it on time!
Demoted...
He's back to CEII. Too much coffee. Hands getting twitchy. Thanks for the correction.
Probably right about Nicky
I expect Nick put in one heroic lap for that qualifier but I don't see it carrying over to pace for 27 laps. I'd love to be wrong...
In the post qualifying
In the post qualifying interviews, Dovi really let Ducati hang. really hard on the bike. Sad to see Nicky go when he was such a persistently positive rider for them. He's a world champion, after all. I like Dovi, but he's no Nicky.
Double entry
Is Iannone trying to make up for lost ground by making two entries, 11th and 13th?
Fixed
Thanks for that, a little double entry bookkeeping there...
Bradl
Anyone know what happened to Bradl? He suddenly didn't have the speed anymore and fell off again. Before QP he looked set on a front row start, he could've definitely beaten Crutchlow.
His race pace looks great though, so I'd say a podium is on the cards for him.
Nicky was following Marc when
Nicky was following Marc when Marc dipped below 1'38". There is a heavy rumor that got heavier during QP2 when they interviewed the LCR team Boss. I see Nicky on a production honda next year.
Edited for the right Honda Team
