2013 Indianapolis Moto3 Race Result: One Rider Establishes, Another Announces An Arrival

Alex Rins showed race craft to match his outright speed using a late pass to take the win at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday.  Rins, third in the championship, now sits a mere 16 points from the championship lead.

But again, the story of the day involved the name Marquez. This time 17-year-old Alex, younger brother to sensational MotoGP rookie Marc, managed his first-ever podium with a second place finish. He was leading the race late before succumbing to teammate Rins’ relentless pressure.

In third was Maverick Vinales. Championship leader Luis Salom finished a distant fifth. Unusually, twelve riders – one third of the entrants – didn’t finish the clear-weather race.
