Jack Miller fought off a race-long challenge from Efren Vazquez to win his second grand prix in a row Sunday at the Circuit of the Americas near Austin, Texas.  Miller, with two race wins in two tries this season, leads the championship by 18 points.

Romano Fenati, who started eighth on the grid, clawed his way through the pack to grab second place over Efren Vazquez who had held the number-two position for much of the contest. Vazquez finished third, bringing up the rear of the tight cluster of the three lead riders. For Vazquez, it is his second podium in the row and puts him second in the world championship with 32 points.

Alex Rins, pole setter and winner here last year, finished fourth after Alex Marquez crashed out on the final lap with only two corners left in the contest. Jacob Kornfeil, sixth in Qatar, managed one better in Texas with fifth place.

Miller, who started on pole, led virtually the entire race with the exception of brief challenges by Vazquez, Marquez and Fenati. In the early laps, it was Miller, Marquez, Vazquez, Rins, Fenati with Marquez and Vazquez swapping positions regularly as Fenati closed the gap. By the midway through the race, Miller, Marquez and Vazquez had opened a one-second gap on the field.

Then Fenati began to make his move. The lead rider on Valentino Rossi's Sky Racing Team VR46 picked off Kornfeil then Rins and began to close in on the battling pair of Vazquez and Marquez. Fenati caught the leaders with four laps left and sliced into second leaving Vazquez in third and Marquez in fourth.

The final, hectic lap brought multiple position changes with Marquez crashing out of fourth and Fenati holding off Vazquez while Miller won by less than a bike length.
