Marc Marquez again set the fastest practice lap but this time not by the margin he held during the previous practices. The points leader's FP3 time of 1'39.171 -- his fastest of the weekend -- was slightly more than one-tenth faster than second-fastest Dani Pedrosa, his Repsol Honda teammate.
Valentino Rossi finished FP3 at the new Argentina circuit as the third fastest rider and top Yamaha at two-tenths behind Marquez. Aleix Espargaro, another two-tenths back, grabbed fourth after holding second for much of the session. Andrea Dovizioso, who spent most of the practice mid pack, put in a fast lap at the end of the session to climb into fifth, a little more than half a second from the leader.
Marquez led most of the session. But while his closest pursurer -- Pedrosa -- still remains a tenth back, the outcome of FP3 serves as good news for any top rider not named Marquez. At the end of Friday's FP2, the Spanish champion held a full second advantage over second place and was nearly than two seconds clear from sixth place onward. Moreover, he led the slpit times in every sector of the 4.8 km (2.986 mi.) track.
During Saturday's FP3 however, Marquez led only in two of the track's four timing sectors and pack had considerably closed the gap. Stefan Bradl (6th) was six-tenths shy of the top with Jorge Lorenzo (7th) another one-hundredth back. Rounding out the top ten and earning the right to skip the first qualifying practice were Andrea Iannone (8th), Alvaro Bautista (9th) and Pol Espargaro (10th).
Riders 11 through 23 will head into Q1 with the top two advancing into Q2 which will set the front of the grid.
