The track heated up for the second race and so did the racing.
Davide Giugliano led from the start with Tom Sykes and Toni Elias scrapping for second place, a fight that was unsurprisingly won by Sykes, then again by Loris Baz. Then Marco Melandri passed Elias, as did Sylvain Guintoli and Chaz Davies. Giugliano was drawing out a lead over the Kawasakis, setting the fastest lap of the race, as he got told that he had jumped the start and had to pull in to the pits for a ride-through penalty. As he pulled in at the end of the third lap, Sykes and Baz were formation flying ahead of the Aprilia pair of Melandri and Guintoli.
As is his style, Tom Sykes ticked off the laps at a solid pace, slowly increasing his lead by a couple of tenths a lap as Loris Baz, Marco Melandri and Sylvain Guintoli carved out a space for their own battle ahead of the third group.
At the midway point, Sykes had a four second lead as Baz, Melandri and Guintoli had a clear seven seconds from Jonathan Rea, Toni Elias and Eugene Laverty, Chaz Davies having crashed out of that battle.
Further back, the returning Sylvain Barrier tussled with David Salom for the Evo lead, but a track infraction led to Barrier getting told to drop a place, ending the fight and handing the Evo win to Salom.
At the front of the race, Tom Sykes was untouchable and he again held a five second lead over the battle behind him, leading to his twentieth World Superbike and another double victory.
Second place, however, wasn't decided at all, and Marco Melandri, finally having an Aprilia he trusts enough to corner the way he likes to, made an attempt to pass Loris Baz with six laps left, with Baz able to get the switch back as Melandri surged past into a chicane. As Baz crossed the line, his pit board had "RESPIRER" (breathe in French) at the top in an effort to calm him down.
A second pass on Baz came on lap nineteen of twenty one, and again Baz fought back, reclaiming his place, riding very defensively but quick enough for the gap to Sykes to close by a few tenths and for Sylvain Guintoli to drop off the fighters.
On lap twenty, Melandri passed Baz once more, with a stabbing lunge on the kerb of a chicane, an old-school Melandri pass, and once again, Baz was able to drive out of the corner past Melandri, with a polite parry and a strong riposte. Once Baz knew he could hold Melandri off, he settled his bike and made a run to the flag, and took second place with Melandri on his coat tails for third.
Tom Sykes extends his lead to thirty-nine points over Sylvain Guintoli, whose fourth place kept Loris Baz from catching him in the title chase, but only by two points.
