2015 Imola World Superbike Superpole Results: Right On Time

Superpole opened on schedule, not affected by the morning's delay from the Superstock 600 qualifying's oil spill. Niccolo Canepa would not make the start as he contracted gastro enteritis, putting him in twentieth place before the session started.

Sylvain Guintoli set the race tyre benchmark with a 1'49.250 and then beat his own time only to be beaten by his teammate Michael van der Mark, ahead of the switch to the new Pirelli qualifying tyres. Guintoli's second-quickest time was then erased as he cut a chicane, promoting Michel Fabrizio, returning on a Ducati to replace Nico Terol, to second quickest.

The qualifying tyres allowed Leon Camier to knock more than a second off his lap time, putting him on top with a 1'48.029, shortly before parking up his bike a lap later with a technical issue. Michel Fabrizio slotted into second place, but was knocked out of promotion by Michael van der Mark who took top spot from Camier with a 1'47.778.

Van der Mark and Camier filled Superpole Two to its usual twelve riders, with a question over whether or not Camier's MV Agusta would be ready in time to qualify, the single bike rule not allowing him to have a spare. A few seconds after the pitlane opened, his bike was finally wheeled into the garage and the work started.

Jonathan Rea opened Superpole Two with a 1'47.608 on race rubber, but Davide Giugliano knocked three tenths off that shortly after. Leon Haslam managed to put in a lap before crashing. He was able to get the bike running enough to limp it back to the garages before it was time to fit the qualifying rubber.

Chaz Davies was the first rider to put in a lap on a Q, knocking a second and a half off his race tyre lap with a 1'46.672, demonstrating just how much of a difference the new sticky rubber makes, and his teammate, in spite of a near crash at the last chicane, Giugliano lopped a further quarter of a second off that.

Tom Sykes and Jonathan Rea made a concerted effort to beat the Ducati of Giugliano, but in the two laps on the soft tyres, they couldn't dethrone the returning Italian. Leon Haslam did manage to get out on a decent tyre and took fifth place behind Chaz Davies but Leon Camier didn't manage to get a bike in time to record a lap, settling for twelfth place.

Questions of Giugliano's fitness have been laid to rest with his fourth career pole position and it puts him in a good position to hunt his first victory.

honda has to step up to the plate for this boy. new bike is required. but they didnt come through with rae too. sad waste of talent.

Are they spending too much a Mr. Marquez in GP to afford it? Whats stopping them from bringing something new to the table. That CBR is clearly being out classed
