2015 Imola World Supersport Race Results: Close As Usual

World Supersport has given us close races all year, and this weekend in Imola would be no different.

Jules Cluzel started from pole position and led the race from Kenan Sofuoglu as the leading pair made room for them to keep their personal battle going. PJ Jacobsen led the best of the rest ahead of Marco Faccani, Lorenzo Zanetti and Film Wilairot.

As the leading pair built the gap over Jacobsen to three seconds after seven laps, Zanetti had hunted Jacobsen down and set about looking for a way past.

At the halfway mark, Kenan Sofuoglu passed Jules Cluzel for the lead in Variante Tamburello, but he overcooked the exit and Cluzel took the lead back easily. Sofuoglu was able to make a pass stick shortly after though, but Cluzel stuck with him, able to match him throughout the lap. Lorenzo Zanetti pushed past PJ Jacobsen but the gap to the leading two was over four seconds, giving him a third lace as the best option.

Kenan Sofoglu, with five laps to go, got his head down and tried to break Jules Cluzel, setting two lap records in a row and building a one second gap, but Cluzel closed the gap, setting the lap record himself on the penultimate lap.

On the last lap, Sofuoglu was flawless, but Cluzel looked like he had more pace, but trying to close the gap at Variante Alta, Cluzel messed up his entry and gave Sofuoglu enough of a gap to cleanly win the race.

Kenan Sofuoglu took his third victory in a row, in spite of the family issues that have proved a distraction throughout the weekend, with Jules Cluzel in second and Lorenzo Zanetti in third, his fourth Imola podium.

Sofuoglu extends his championship lead to sixty eight points with Cluzel closing in to three points of second place.
