Newly crowned World Champion Johann Zarco stamped his authority on the Moto2 class as he took his seventh win of the season at the Motegi circuit in the wet conditions after a weather delay of two hours.
Zarco became champion during free pactice on Friday when Tito Rabat withdrew with an injury. But rather than relax, the Frenchman topped Jonas Folger (2nd) by more than four seconds in contest which was limited to 15 laps because the the delayed start. Sandro Cortese took third to complete the podium.
Azlan Shah had his best result of the season -- and of his career -- to take fourth, a full 17 seconds from the race leaders. Hafizh Syahrin grabbed fifth, just in front of Ricard Cardus (6th). Simone Corsi (7th), Sam Lowes (8th), Marcel Schrotter (9th) and Randy Krummenacher completed the top 10.
Zarco started the race from the pole position but found himself pushed back to third place at Turn 1 with Folger in the lead and Thomas Luthi in second. Zarco soon seized second from Luthi (who later crashed). By the seventh lap, Zarco had the lead and never looked back to record his eighth career win.
Zarco was crowned 2015 champion in Friday practice when title-rival Tito Rabat withdrew from the race because of injury and, in doing so, was mathematically eliminated from the top spot.
