Josh Brookes the first with a recorded lap but Lorenzo Savadori knocked him off the top spot before Leon Camier pushed them both down. Savadori reclaimed the top spot a lap later. As riders pulled in for the mid-qualifying tyre change, Savadori and Camier were over a quarter of a second ahead of third-quickest Anthony West.
As the clock wound down, West came close to creeping into the top two but with forty-seven seconds left the red flags came out as Saeed Al Sulaiti's bike started spewing smoke out of the side.
As the Italian marshals rushed about with the cement dust and brooms, delaying the start of Superpole two, Lorenzo Savadori and Leon Camier joined the top ten in their preparations for the second session.
Davide Giugliano crashed out on his first lap as Xavi Fores knocked Jonathan Rea to second place as the session started. A lap later, Rea took the top spot only to be joined a hundredth of a second behind by Tom Sykes. Xavi Fores and Chaz Davies sat behind the Kawasaki pair as everyone pitted in to fit their qualifying tyre allocation.
Davide Giugliano was the first rider out on the sticky rubber, making up for the lost first half of the session and he set a 1'34.826, over half a second quicker than Rea's race rubber lap. Nicky Hayden enjoyed the top spot for a fraction of a second until Xavi Fores knocked him down a spot but Jonathan Rea was over a third of a second quicker.
Tom Sykes then raced to the flag and once again demonstrated that there's no one better on qualifying rubber and set a new qualifying record two tenths quicker than Rea and over half a second quicker than Fores in third.
Xavi Fores, in third behind Sykes and Rea, starts on the front row, two rows ahead of the factory Ducatis on the third row. Alex Lowes will head the second row alongside Lorenzo Savadori, working his way from Superpole one, and Nicky Hayden. Leon Camier, also qualifying the hard way, split the Ducatis on the third row.
