2016 Silverstone Moto2 FP3 Result: Another Parade Lap For Lowes

The intermediate class learned their lesson from Friday and made the most of the first minutes of the session, before – almost like clockwork – the rain flags came out after about fifteen minutes. Luckily, the rain eased up quickly to allow more track time and some competitive times.

Sam Lowes paid his dues to the paying public by being the only rider to circulate around the track once things got wet and got rewarded with a first position over three tenths ahead after a series of red hot laps in the final minutes of FP3.

Takaaki Nakagami had been the first to beat Friday’s benchmark before the rain started and also proved to be Lowes’ biggest challenger, the Japanese rider ultimately finishing second, less than a tenth in front of Thomas Luthi, the Swiss looking in fine form as the last rider to drop into the 2:07s.

Johann Zarco kept close in fourth position, there or thereabouts all weekend, followed by Jonas Folger in fifth spot. Sixth placed Alex Marquez was over a second down on the leader, race preparation affected by less than ideal conditions throughout the weekend. Alex Rins was a familiar sight down in twenty-third place, clearly a weekend of damage limitation for the Spanish rider.
