2016 Aragon Moto2 FP1 Result: The Lowes And Folger Duet

What looked to be a chance for Johann Zarco to leave a mark on his title rival’s homeland, turned into a laptime war between Sam Lowes and Jonas Folger, the two exchanging the lead countless times in the final half of the session. The Brit came out on top, narrowly leading by five hundredths of a second.

Takaaki Nakagami tried to challenge the duo and got as close as nine thousandths of a second but had to settle for third. After leading the session briefly, fourth-placed Simone Corsi was the only rider to get within half a second of the leader, Sandro Cortese in fifth over six tenths down.

The (still) championship leader dropped down to sixth of the timesheets, seven tenths off Lowes, closely followed by Thomas Luthi. Franco Morbidelli managed to tangle with Miguel Oliveira on only the second lap out the box, leaving the Portuguese rider in the medical center and the Italian on the naughty step, waiting for a big repair job before giving it another go in the final third of the session. His run was good enough for eighth position, ahead of an under the weather Alex Rins.

Misano winner Lorenzo Baldassarri didn’t have a great session either, the Italian’s twelfth spot significantly better than the position he spent most of the session in. Pretty much the exact opposite of Alex Marquez's FP1 in fourteenth.

was Morbidelli thinking? He just took the rear of Oliveira with no reason and so early in the session.
