Brad Binder set a remarkable final lap with qualifying time expired to grab a last-gasp pole position at the Sepang Circuit Saturday in Malaysia. The world champion jumped from sixth to top spot in that final lap, dropping Jorge Navarro to second, Francesco Bagnaia to third and Lorenzo Dalla Porta (4th) to the second row.
For Dalla Porta, it still ranks as his best qualifying of the year. Gabriel Rodrigo, who crashed late in the wet session, held on for fifth. Nicolo Antonelli (6th) completed the third row. Rookie Bo Bendsneyder, who started the session near the top, held on for seventh. Jorge Martin (8th) and Fabio Quartararo (9th) completed the third row. Aron Canet rounded out the top 10.
