2017 Argentina Moto2 FP2 Result: Morbidelli Beats Schrotter

Franco Morbidelli ended the second session of free practice for the Moto2 class on top of the timesheets. The Marc VDS rider put in a late charge to set the fastest time at the end of the session, dislodging his teammate Alex Marquez.

More riders would find their way between the two Marc VDS teammates. Marcel Schrotter impressed on the Suter, getting within two tenths of Morbidelli, while Taka Nakagami ended up in third. Lorenzo Baldassarri, who had been quickest in the morning, finished FP2 as fourth fastest, a quarter of a second off the pace of Morbidelli.

Miguel Oliviera made big step forward with the KTM, making it into fifth and the third chassis manufacturer in the top five. With Simone Corsi in eighth on the Speed Up and Xavi Vierge ninth on the Tech 3 bike, all five Moto2 chassis makers feature in the top nine. 

It is a very tight field in Moto2, with less than a second covering the top 23 riders. The only gaps worthy of note are between Fabio Quartararo in fifteenth and Isaac Viñales in sixteenth, and between the fastest man Morbidelli and Marcel Schrotter.
