With the title contenders being extra cautious in full wet conditions, that let some more names shine through at the top of the timesheets - at least until the very end, when some familiar names were cast in the top roles. Jerez winner Alex Marquez waited until the very last lap to cruise to the top and lead the session by almost eight tenths of a second.
Pecco Bagnaia had a similar progress behind the Spaniard, sneaking into the top two in the final minute of practice. Championship veteran Yonny Hernandez showed off some of his skills in the wet by leading the early part of the session, before dropping down to a respectable third spot.
Franco Morbidelli had been lingering down towards the end of the top twenty before some set-up magic was performed in the garage and the Italian popped up in fourth position, only five thousandths of a second behind Hernandez.
Luca Marini was another confident performer in the wet conditions of FP2, the Italian grabbing fifth place, ahead of Xavi Vierge and Simone Corsi, both of which held a gap of over a second on Marquez.
Wet weather enthusiast Hafizh Syahrin spent most of the session on track and was looking for a top five result before the final lap rush pushed him back all the way to eighth position, with Miguel Oliveira and Tom Luthi completing the top ten.
Tetsuta Nagashima was another of the names that impressed, the Japanese rider constantly at the business end of things, even enjoying a short taste of the lead before finishing eleventh.
Morning leader Lorenzo Baldassari ended up eighteenth, with Takaaki Nakagami and Dominique Aegerter closing the top thirty.

Tarran Mackenzie
A 'big up' to Tarran Mackenzie for getting up to 25th position in only his second Moto2 session in tricky conditions.
A really solid start. The best of wishes to him. Looking forwards to following his progress after watching him in BSB Supersport.
