2017 Valencia Moto3 FP1 Result: Ramirez Rules The Roost

Deceptively sunny but cold is the usual welcome for the season finale and Valencia did not surprise from that point of view. What did surprise was a rare crash for world champion Joan Mir ten minutes into the morning session, ruining a pair of leathers into the gravel trap at turn ten. No harm, no foul, the Spaniard limped away, dusted himself off and probably rejoiced that the suit was already prepared for the gala.

That left Qualifying King Jorge Martin to tip-toe his way into the lead, exchanging the honour with Juanfran Guevara until Marcos Ramirez sealed the deal at the flag as one of the only 3 riders of the morning into the 1:39s. Martin settled for second, less than a tenth ahead of Nicolo Bulega, who woke up in the final ten minutes to pop up into third position.

Local boy Aron Canet eased his way into the session and eventually made it up to fourth spot, Guevara dropping to fifth, with Bo Bendsneyder and Fabio Di Giannantonio within a tenth of the Spaniard. Ayumu Sasaki, Andrea Migno and early faller Gabriel Rodrigo completed the top ten, Enea Bastianini in eleventh position being the final rider within a second of Ramirez.

After a rapid start, Romano Fenati lost ground all the way back to fourteenth spot, in the middle of an Italian sandwich with Dennis Foggia and Niccolo Antonelli. A bit further down the timing sheets was the world champion, Mir finishing twenty-second with only a handful of timed laps after the extensive repair job.
