2018 Le Mans Moto2 FP2 Result: Bagnaia Keeps Between The Lines

With the temperature going up as you would expect, more and more tumbles were featured in the highlights reel for the second batch of practice sessions of the day and the intermediate class was no exception. Early leader Mattia Pasini opened the recital and then allowed Pecco Bagnaia to steal his spotlight at the top of the timesheets. The Sky rider was untroubled throughout the session and finished first despite being second to Sam Lowes as the checker flag came out. The British rider’s joy was cut short as a late decision was made that he was too enthusiastically over track limits on his fastest lap.

Once Lowes was demoted to 11th position, Joan Mir reclaimed second, only six hundredths of a second behind Bagnaia and consistently towards the top end of affairs. FP1 leader Marcel Schrotter showed up to claim his rightful position in the final ten minutes but the German had to settle for third and console himself with the fact he was still fastest on Friday’s combined standings.

The final time attack was a matter of gravel trap of glory and it was more of the former for Alex Marquez, whose turn 14 tumble denied him an opportunity to improve on fourth position. Simone Corsi impressed with a late jump into fifth, only five thousandths of a second behind the Marc VDS rider, while Pasini had to rely on the time set on only his third lap to keep sixth position.

Miguel Oliveira ended up covered in both gravel and glory as he slid out in turn four but saved a seventh position after lingering down towards the bottom of the top 15 for most of the afternoon. Romano Fenati had a more quiet session but made steady progress into eighth position while Lorenzo Baldassarri was another one to tumble on his way to the top nine. Fabio Quartararo snuck into the top ten to the delight of local fans, only three tenths down on the leader.

Despite showing good speed in the morning, Jorge Navarro bookended his session with fast crashes in turn 14 and dropped all the way down to 19th.
