2018 Le Mans Moto3 FP2 Result: An Antonelli Reminder

By Zara Daniela | Fri, 18/05/2018 - 12:13

A big improvement in track temperature predictably led to faster times and faster crashes. No harm done and it ended up as a good afternoon at the office for the Italians. Tony Arbolino sat at the top of the timing screens for most of the session, until Niccolo Antonelli dethroned him in a final time attack. The SIC58 Squadra racer snuck ahead of Kaito Toba by a mere four hundredths of a second but the Japanese rider missed out on perfectly fine opportunity to fight back by suffering a rather speedy crash on his last lap.

Enea Bastianini was consistently in the top three and ended up third, a tenth down on the leader. Arbolino could not improve in the late part of the session and dropped to fourth, only nine thousandths of a second ahead of Marco Bezzecchi. Aron Canet progressed significantly from the morning session and climbed all the way to sixth, edging ahead of Fabio Di Giannantonio.

Philipp Oettl finished half a second down on Antonelli, while FP1 leader Jorge Martin couldn’t quite improve on his morning benchmark - although he got very close – and could only climb up to ninth. The top ten was filled in by Andrea Migno, who overcame an early slide through the gravel trap.

Makar Yurchenko was once again best of the rest, while Nicolo Bulega showed some signs of progress in 12th position.
