2022 Estoril World Supersport Race One Result: Passes And Crashes

World Supersport was eighteen laps of a cool Estoril as a cloudy sky limited the temperature to 20ºC. Dominique Aegerter led the championship by thirty points at the start of the race.

Nicolo Bulega and Jules Cluzel passed Dominique Aegerter for the lead and Can Oncu carved his way from eighth to fourth place. Bulega went wide into turn six after pushing too hard trying to escape, and at the start of lap two, Can Oncu led Aegerter and Cluzel into turn one after the three rode three abreast down the straight. Federico Caricasulo and Glenn van Straalen overhauled Nicolo Bulega ahead of Lorenzo Baldassarri.

Can Oncu set a 1'40.751 fastest lap in the lead ahead of Aegerter and van Straalen at the end of lap two. A lap later, Nicolo Bulega set a 1'40.571 fastest lap in fifth place, behind Jules Cluzel. Into turn one of lap five, as Lorenzo Baldassarri set a fastest lap of 1'40.472, Aegerter tried to sneak under Can Oncu into turn one, but the Kawasaki rider held the lead on the brakes. At the start of lap six, Oncu, Aegerter and van Straalen crossed the line three abreast but entered turn one in the order that they started the straight.

A lap later, as Baldassarri once again set a fastest lap, a 1'40.437, the leading three rode into turn one together again, only this time van Straalen was able to take second place from Aegerter. Over the line to start lap eight, Glenn van Straalen took the lead over the line but Dominique Aegerter passed the leading pair to take the lead into turn one and he led van Straalen, Oncu, Cluzel and Baldassarri. With nobody in front of him for a lap, Aegerter set a 1'40.222 to set the fastest lap ahead of van Straalen, Oncu, Cluzel and Baldassarri. Raffaele De Rosa got a ride through penalty for not taking his long lap penalty as Glenn van Strallen dropped his bike in the chicane. After Aegerter set another fastest lap, a 1'40.058, Jules Cluzel crashed out of third place into turn one. Glenn van Straalen picked up his bike and recovered in twelfth place as Niki Tuuli crashed as well.

Ten laps down, Dominique Aegerter had a lead of over three seconds over Can Oncu and Lorenzo Baldassarri with Nicolo Bulega and Federico Caricasulo. Lorenzo Baldassarri took second place from Oncu, over three seconds behind Aegerter in the lead. With six laps to go, Aegerter led Baldassarri by over three seconds with Can Oncu and Nicolo Bulega behind him. Federico Caricasulo was under a second off fourth place with Yari Montella five seconds behind him and Adrian Huertas a further six seconds behind until Glenn van Straalen caught Huertas to pass him ahead of race winner Andy Verdoia.

Four laps remaining, Dominique Aegerter held a comfortable three lead of more than three seconds over Lorenzo Baldassarri, Can Oncu and Nicolo Bulega. The lead extended to four seconds a lap later as the three-way battle for second place became a two-way battle for third place a second behind Lorenzo Baldassarri.

Two laps left, the top two spots were decided by Aegerter and Baldassarri while Oncu held off Bulega for the last step of the podium. Bulega's right glove started flapping about, but it didn't seem to trouble him as he passed Can Oncu into turn one of the last lap for the last step of the podium.

Dominique Aegerter won the first race of the weekend, three seconds ahead of Lorenzo Baldassarri with Nicolo Bulega a second and a half further back. Can Oncu took fourth place almost three seconds clear of Federico Caricasulo. Glenn van Straalen recovered from his crash to pick up seventh place.

Dominique Aegerter, leading the MotoE World Cup as well as the World Supersport championship, increased his championship lead to thirty five points over Lorenzo Baldassarri. Nicolo Bulega in third place held onto third place in the championship. Can Oncu benefitted from Niki Tuuli's DNF to climb up to fifth place.

2022 Estoril World Superbike Race One Result: Cold Track, Hot Race

World Superbike race one was twenty one laps on a cold track as the clouds held off the sun a a 19ºC and 31ºC track. Jonathan Rea fitted the development front tyre and a harder rear than his direct competition.

Toprak Razgatlioglu hit the lead first, beating Jonathan Rea to the first turn as the Ducatis of Alvaro Bautista and Michael Ruben Rinaldi missed the apex letting Andrea Locatelli claim third place. Ahead of Bautista, Alex Lowes and Scot Redding. After a lap, the leading four were just under a second clear of Scott Redding and Iker Lecuona. Alvaro Bautista looked for a way past Locatelli as Razgatlioglu and Rea started breaking away. Jonathan Rea set the fastest lap and passed Razgatlioglu before the finish line only for Razgatlioglu to take the lead back into turn one on the brakes.

After missing the apex at turn five, Razgatlioglu slowed slightly and Rea hit the Yamaha's rear tyre sending smoke from his front tyre, but both of them escaped without incident and the pair resumed their escape attempt, clearing over a second from Locatelli.

At the start of lap five, Rea had set another fastest lap, a 1'36.204, half a second behind Razgatlioglu. Behind the leading pair, Bautista took third from Locatelli down the straight, starting the lap two seconds off Rea. A lap later and he was two and a half seconds off the leading pair, but no longer had Locatelli in his slipstream.

Toprak Razgatlioglu went wide, lifting his rear too high for it to land properly, and let Jonathan Rea past only to have Rea go wide at turn six but remaining in the lead. Razgatlioglu caught up and started hounding Rea throughout lap seven.

Lap eight and Rea led Razgatlioglu over the line but Razgatlioglu blocked him into turn one on the brakes, the pair at the limit of adhesion. Bautista was two and a half seconds behind with Locatelli almost two seconds further back. Scott Redding held off Iker Lecuona to keep his grip on fifth place.

Lap nine and Rea led over the line as Razgatlioglu led into turn one again, but Rea tried to lean on Razgatlioglu and overtake on the outside. Razgatlioglu led Rea but the pair were constantly wishing a tenth or two through out the lap. Rea once more took the lead over the line at the start of lap ten, but Rea held the inside line to take the lead from his rival and hold it through the first few turns as Alvaro Bautista closed to within two seconds as the leading pair duelled.

At half race distance, Jonathan Rea led Toprak Razgatlioglu by under a tenth of a second with Alvaro Bautista almost two seconds behind. Andrea Locatelli was four seconds further back, two and a half seconds clear of Scott Redding and Iker Lecuona.

At the start of lap eleven, Razgatlioglu once again took the lead into turn one, leading Rea throughout the lap by under two tenths of a second. Alvaro Bautista was the only rider in the 1'36s, metronomically maintaining his pace, as he closed to just over a second from the fight at the front.

Lap thirteen, with Jonathan Rea leading Toprak Razgatlioglu, Alvaro Bautista closed to within a second as the leaders tripped each other up at the start of the lap. Bautista closed three tenths of a second lap after lap until he was close to their slipstream at the start of lap fourteen where the pair swapped the lead once more.

Scott Redding and Iker Lecuona closed to within two seconds of fourth-placed Andrea Locatelli who was over eight seconds from the soon-to-be three way fight at the front. Toprak Razgatlioglu took the lead into turn one, as it was his turn, as Bautista finally closed the gap to sit in the clean air behind the duo to start lap sixteen as a threesome.

Lecuona took fifth place from Redding, two seconds from Locatelli as Razgatlioglu shooed Rea off the line into turn one, taking the lead and allowing Bautista to take second place from Rea. Razgatlioglu escaped at the front only for Bautista and Rea to close up before the lap was up.

With four laps to go, Razgatlioglu led Bautista as Rea dropped off the leading pair with Locatelli over eleven seconds off the pace in fourth place. Behind Locatelli, Iker Lecuona and Xavi Vierge held off Scott Redding in the fight for fifth place.

With three laps to go, Rea looked like he had no tyre left to fight for the win, as Bautista challenged Razgatlioglu for the lead, unable to pass on the brakes. Razgatlioglu looked very much at the limit with Bautista holding some rubber in reserve for the last few laps. Bautista powered past Bautista down the straight but he lost out to the defending world champion into turn one on the brakes.

The last lap, Bautista tucked into behind Razgatlioglu down the straight, but couldn't pass him in to turn one and Razgatlioglu couldn't get close enough on the brakes, turn after turn. Turn six and turn nine, the overtake spots, Razgatlioglu held off Bautista on the brakes, but coming out of the last turn, Razgatlioglu's Yamaha lifted the front wheel as Bautista drifted out of the last turn to pass him down the straight under power. Razgatlioglu watched Bautista and shook his head as Bautista drove past to steal the win in the last few metres.

Alvaro Bautista took a calculated win, refusing to let go of Toprak Razgatlioglu, while Jonathan Rea took a careful third place having run out of tyres, finishing almost five seconds further back. Andrea Locatelli sat in a comfortable fourth place, two seconds clear of Xavi Vierge and Iker Lecuona. Alex Lowes took seventh place, ahead of Scott Redding and Michael Ruben Rinaldi. Eurosport's Xavi Fores took a respectable eleventh place, behind Loris Baz.

The championship lead was increased as Alvaro Bautista extended his lead to twenty seven points over Jonathan Rea and fifty points over Toprak razgatlioglu. Andrea Locatelli maintains fourth place ahead of Iker Lecuona and Michael Ruben Rinaldi.

2022 Estoril World Superbike Superpole Result: Depleted Grid And A New Lap Record

Fifteen minutes for World Superbike to determine the grid for this afternoon's race opened under a cloudy sky but rain had still not made an appearance. Garrett Gerloff joined Michael van der Mark in being ruled unfit for the remainder of the round after a crash in this morning's free practice session, suffering an injury to his left knee. Xavi Fires was pulled off Eurosport commentary duties and plonked on a Ducati to replace an injured Philipp Oettl.

Jonathan Rea opened the session with a 1'36.030 ahead of Toprak Razgatlioglu before pitting in. Iker Lecuona and Andrea Locatelli were third and fourth quickest before the customary mid-session tea break. At the halfway mark, the track was empty as everyone had new tyres fitted.

Axel Bassani was the first rider out on a second tyre, followed by Jonathan Rea who was immediately on pace to improve his lap time. Rea set a new lap record of 1'35.346 as Alvaro Bautista and Scott Redding took second and third places with two and a half minutes left.

Jonathan Rea pitted in and watched the clock tick down as he sat on a six tenths of a second lead over his title rivals. Toprak Razgatlioglu Joined the front row less than a tenth of a second off Rea's pole position lap, pushing Alvaro Bautista dow to third place on the grid.

With the championship leading trio on the front row, Scott Redding headed the second row with his best qualifying position on the BMW. Andrea Locatelli and Michael Ruben Rinaldi rounded out the second row ahead of Iker Lecuona, Alex Lowes and Eugene Laverty.

2022 Estoril World Supersport Superpole Result: Dominant Aegerter Favourite For Pole

World Supersport superpole started with Moto-E and World Supersport championship leader Dominique Aegerter dominating the free practice sessions, with multiple laps quicker than the rest of the grid. The Ducatis were gifted a few more horsepower in the Next Generation rules.

Race-winner Andy Verdoïa opened the session with a 1'41.822 as Raffaele De Rosa's bike was summoned off the track for a smoking engine. Glenn van Straalen and Can Oncu held the top spot briefly until Dominique Aegerter took a third of a second off the quickest time with a 1'40.242, a quicker lap than any other rider's best this weekend, albeit slower than Aegerter's lap record pace.

Jules Cluzel climbed up to the top only to be knocked off by Aegerter's 1'39.786. Another lap and another step up with a 1'39.573, putting Aegerter over half a second ahead of Nicolo Bulega and Jules Cluzel. A lap later, the absolute lap record fell to Aegerter, finding a tenth of a second in the last sector to post a 1'39.484 before he pulled in for the mid-session break.

With six minutes left, riders started rejoining the track for a last couple of attempts to improve their lot. Lorenzo Baldassarri knocked Nicolo Bulega off second place, pushing Jules Cluzel off the front row, with just under three minutes left. Yellow flags made their customary appearance in the final minutes as riders pushed too hard in a last ditch attempt to improve. Federico Caricasulo crashed after pushing into second place and Nicolo Bulega knocked him down a spot.

With under a minute left, Dominique Aegerter set a 1'39.262 and crossed the line for one last lap, secure in pole position ahead of Nicolo Bulega and Glenn van Straalen with Caricasulo pushed to seventh place by riders giving it their all on the last lap.

After the grid places were settled, Dominique Aegerter posted a 1'39.046 to take pole position by over eight tenths of a second, leading Nicolo Bulega, a lone Ducati in the front two rows, and Glenn van Straalen on the front row, ahead of Lorenzo Baldassarri, Jules Cluzel and Andy Verdoïa on the all-Yamaha second row. The third row was headed by crasher Federico Caricasulo, leading Can Oncu and Niki Tuuli. Stefano Manzi was quickest Triumph in tenth place.

2022 Estoril World Superbike FP1 Result: Gerloff Leads Razgatlioglu

Garrett Gerloff opened the weekend in a sunny Estoril holding off Toprak Razgatlioglu, demonstrating the strengths of the Yamaha at this track, with Alvaro Bautista, half a second off Gerloff's pace, beating Andrea Locatelli to third place.

Michael van der Mark has been declared unfit for the weekend after a crash five minutes into the morning's session that brought out the red flags.

2022 Le Mans MotoE Race 2 Result: Back To Winning Ways

The MotoE cup provided the final action of the day, with no rain, no fuss and no cancan dancers but with a close battle for the podium positions until the final corner. Poleman and Race 1 winner Mattia Casadei made the perfect start to lead ahead of Kevin Zannoni, Hikari Okubo and Dominique Aegerter, while Eric Granado dropped down to 8th after the first few corners.

Casadei was quick to extend a gap of one second over the first couple of laps, while Aegerter made his way through the chasing pack to lead the pursuit at the start of lap three. In that same group, Granado was steadily recovering from the underwhelming start and making his way inside the top five but getting a track limits warning in the process.

Aegerter caught up with Casadei with four laps remaining, dropping Zannoni into Granado’s reach and with a sizeable group still in tow. Aegerter’s first attack only came on the final lap, the Swiss rider getting ahead of the Italian into the Dunlop chicane and defending all the way to the chequered flag to claim his first victory of the season, Casadei settling for second. Niccolo Canepa found some late pace to inconvenience Granado, the duo trading places a few times over the last couple of laps and the Italian then went on to chase compatriot Zannoni. Better drive out of the final corner allowed Canepa to snatch third place by eight thousandths of a second and climb onto his first MotoE podium.

Zannoni and Granado completed the top five, with the rest of the top ten occupied by Okubo, Ferrari, Hector Garzo, Marc Alcoba and Miquel Pons. A notable absence was reigning cup champion Jordi Torres, who was declared unfit due to a fractured left leg following the scary tangle in Saturday’s race.

Aegerter’s victory leaves him in charge of the world cup standings by eight points from Granado, with Casadei 17 points back and Ferrari on a 30-point deficit.
