Jonathan Rea leaves the Portimao test having stamped his authority on the test at at the end of the day. The KRT Kawasaki rider ended the test nearly a second quicker than second-place rider Alex Lowes on the Pata Yamaha. Alvaro Bautista set the third fastest time on the Aruba.it Ducati Panigale V4R, a tenth behind Alex Lowes, while Rea's KRT teammate Leon Haslam was fourth.
Michael van der Mark put the second Pata Yamaha into fifth, while Tom Sykes ended the test nearly 1.4 seconds behind Rea on the SMR BMW S1000RR, but just over four tenths of a second behind Alex Lowes. Sandro Cortese and Marco Melandri finished seventh and eighth on the GRT Yamahas.
It was another Yamaha who topped the WorldSSP class, Jules Cluzel putting the GMT94 Yamaha YZF-R6 ahead of the other Supersport riders. The Frenchman was half a second quicker than Raffaele De Rosa on the MV Agusta 675 F3, the Italian having been close to the front on both days of the test. Lucas Mahias was the first Kawasaki rider, the Puccetti man setting the third quickest time, nearly nine tenths behind Cluzel.

to see Rea at the top. Definitely shocked to see the gap to 2nd though.
Also the 3 Ducatis so far off of Bautista's time, and behind both BMWs as well - but Bautista seems to be doing well with it.
It's not setting up to be the exciting season that I was hoping for though.
The gap
I agree. The order of riders doesn't surprise me much at all. What does surprise me is the gaps between some riders. I didn't expect Rea to be a second faster than anyone - but it's not surprising he's at the top. I expected Bautista to be fast from the get go, but I'm not sure why he's 1.4s faster than his much more experienced [in WSBK] team mate.
I haven't been following closely, did Davies injure himself?
