Sam Lowes ended his preseason with a surge of confidence, the Gresini Kalex rider ending fastest overall, and topping four of the nine sessions of Moto2 testing over the three days at Qatar. The Englishman was fast over a single lap, but also had outstanding pace, lapping consistently in the 1'58s.
Tom Luthi ended the test as second fastest, making a much-needed step forward after his return to the Moto2 class, while Remy Gardner was third quickest throughout the test, two thousandths of a second faster than Augusto Fernandez in fourth.
After the first day of the test, when Brad Binder led two sessions of the test, the KTMs struggled to match the Kalexes. Binder ended the test as tenth fastest overall, just ahead of his impressive rookie teammate Jorge Martin. Given the track was in much worse condition on Friday, it seems a decent guess that the KTM is better on a dirty and slippery track, while the Kalex is able to exploit the grip on the track better.
The proof of the pudding will come next week, however, when the season gets underway at last.

"Tom Luthi ended the test as fastest"

Missing a word
I was indeed missing the word "second" before "fastest". Thanks for the heads up.
Steve Odendaal
I've noticed Steve Odendaal hasn't been listed with NTS, is he injured or no longer on the team?

Odendaal has a broken toe
Odendaal broke his big toe in a training accident. Was having a lot of trouble with it at Jerez, so he skipped the Qatar test to have an operation, was replaced temporarily by Jesko Raffin. Hopes to be fit for Qatar.
