World Supersport superpole was twenty five minutes long, the same configuration as for World Superbike only without a special qualifying tyre.
Isaac Vinales opened the session with a 1'37.440, ahead of Federico Caricasulo and Hikari Okubo, but a lap later, Jules Cluzel set a 1'37.176. Federico Caricasulo, on his third lap, was on pace to take provisional pole, but he ended up three hundredths off Cluzel's pace. A lap later, Caricasulo deposed Cluzel before joining the Frenchman in the pits.
With ten minutes remaining, riders started leaving the pits to try to improve their times. As Federico Caricasulo was setting a fast lap, Jules Cluzel popped back into the pits for a fresh tyre. Caricasulo set a 1'36.915 but seconds later, Randy Krummenacher left up from fifth place to provisional pole with a 1'36.855. Jules Cluzel then set a 1'36.826, propelling himself from fourth quickest to the top. Cluzel was on an even quicker lap, but he dropped a few seconds in the last sector to let slower riders get out of his way, setting himself up for a dash to the flag, but he couldn't improve on his pole position time.
Jules Cluzel took pole position ahead of Randy Krummenacher and Federico Caricasulo, an all-Yamaha front row. Hikari Okubo on the Kawasaki and Raffaele De Rosa on the MV Agusta made up the second row with Isaac Vinales putting his Yamaha in sixth place.
